Word from the Mouth: All Righty Then! edition
Hey everyone, I made it back from the US without any issue. Going into the US there was no one, and I mean no one, unlike some people I know who waited in line (ed’s note: are you flexing about your wait time at the airport?). The hardest part was the kid couldn’t even answer a simple question because children now a days have no clue what is going on or how to respond to authority (ed’s note: you gotta give us an “old man says” trigger warning before you drop a bomb like that!).
I mean you look at me and you definitely think this guy has been in jail (ed’s note: most of us think “should be”), his rap sheet is longer than the list Santa keeps. I mean I’m one of the cleanest people in the league.
Funniest thing ever has to be going to McDonalds at night to get some ice cream and instead of driving because it was right on the other side of parking lot we decided to walk, but on the way I realized I needed a bottle of water so we walked from the entrance to the car and went to drive thru. We get to order and, guess what, ice cream machine is no longer operational after 11. It was 11:01. I say “that sucks balls” and the person responds, “Sir, here we say testicles. We are politically correct”.
Hope that Saturday didn’t kill the grass at D’arcy McGee, I know it did at Arthur Therrien, but there wasn’t much grass to start with.
Recap
Division 1
Missed all of D1 this week, but I Know Terry and Will were working or playing in these games so they will get covered in the Podcast.
Division 2
KOLB vs Top Shooters (50-49)
This game was back and forth with a combined 15 TDs from Brady and Jon. Player for player I’d give the edge to Top Shooters, but then you add the rain and somehow everything flipped. Top Shooters had no answer for Alex and Jeremi who scored 7 of the 8 TDS for KOLB and they also had the 3 picks on defense. Brady relied on Big Marv, Jeremy, and Jason who hauled in 16 of 18 completions and 259 of his 281 yards. Top Shooters turned it over 3 times and KOLB didn’t and they still only lost by 1. They did turn it over on downs 3 times as well though. Before half KOLB scored to go up 37-29 and were starting the second half with the ball. The big problem was they left 1 second on the clock and this allowed Brady to connect with Marvin 10 yards down field and Marvin did the rest with his legs taking it in from 45 yards away. With the ball to start the second half, KOLB turned it over on downs at their 10-yard line. This allowed Top Shooters to go up 41-37. The defense kept it up and got the ball back on downs this again led to Top Shooters scoring and having a 49-37 advantage. KOLB were able to settle back in and moved the ball scored and on the first play on defense got a pick. Jon now had the ball with plenty of time with 6:42 left in the game. He left Brady with lots of time, but after a turnover on downs Top Shooters needed their defense to get another stop or the ball back, but on third and 3 Jon ran for 4 and a first down. Whistle blown game over.
Respect vs Pocket Rockets (43-30)
I will make this short and to the point. Pocket Rockets were missing players all over the place and this caused issues with consistency from PO. Willie’s dad was at the field, and I happened to get a quick quote from him, and he said he was sticking around to drive Willie home after the game, but only if he wins as losers don’t ride in his car. What would have been a great move from Pocket Rockets would have been to get Papa to play. You know Willie isn’t throwing it anywhere near him.
Division 3
Phoenix vs Double Dippers (25-30)
Simon was in at QB again for Phoenix and he could work his magic one more time. It took him until the third drive of the game before he got going with the first 2 ending in picks to Manu and Max. This gave Double Dippers a 6-0 with the ball and a chance to go up 12. The defense for Phoenix prevents the score keeping it at 6-0. The teams trade scores before half making it 12-6 at half. Double Dippers scored to open the second half to go up 2 scores and then both teams traded scores and with 8 minutes left the score was 24-12 Double Dippers. This is where I Ace Ventura Pet Detectived up, but only after the game was over could you make that statement. With 3:30 left in game and it being fourth and long I knew they were going to punt, but planned to use the 45 second clock. Instead of doing that I called a timeout to save clock. They punted and this left Simon plenty of time to score and go up 1-point. Francis scored his third TD of the game from 2 yards out, but this left 51 seconds on the clock. This gave David the perfect amount of time to not force anything stupid and can use the entire clock having all 3 timeouts. With zeros on the clock and being 11 yards out Double Dippers had 1 chance at it. He ran a 12 yard out from the slot and Mason did an in back endzone corner and was stuck in no man’s land. I told the defense what play was coming, but Simon is a huge body and when he runs along the goal line you aren’t going to stop him and that’s what happened. That timeout Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls’d me hard, but at the time it was the right call.
Division 4
Legendaries vs Drama Club (26-6)
I’m just as shocked as you are by this outcome after how both teams looked the week before. Drama Club couldn’t have started out any better. They got a stop and then Simon led them down the field for their only score of the game. At half the score was 7-6 Legendaries with Drama Club getting the ball. This time Legendaries stopped the drive when Gordon picked off Simon. This led Ben rewarding Gordon for his effort with a 4-yard TD, giving them a 14-6 led. Now this is where the game went to Cable Guy for Simon and Drama Club. On back-to-back drives he threw pick 6s to Jerome and Andre to build the Legendaries advantage to 26-6. After that neither team did much and it ended with that score.
Division 5
514 vs Jungle Squad (12-26)
Let me start by pointing out both teams were missing their QB, the difference is Jungle Squad went with a seasoned vet in Gold and 514 stuck with someone from their roster. This didn’t end well for 514. Frederick struggled with consistency, and that is expected for a new QB, the surprising thing is that he only threw 1 pick and for a new QB that’s great. As for Jungle Squad, Gold got them on the board with a 45-yard run which he should have been tackled a few times on that run. At half the score was 14-6 Jungle. With their second possession 514 was able to score when Frederick connected with Joey for a 4-yard TD making it 14-12 Jungle. A few plays later, Gold sealed the game when he threw a deep pass to Perry to giving Jungle a 20-12 lead. After that 514 tried to get back into it, but Frederick lacking experience and playmakers did all he could, but it just wasn’t enough.
Nothing But D vs Slot Machine (2-34)
This was a game between the top 2 teams and boy did it ever disappoint. I want to talk about how Alec de Lafontaine-Jovani, the team’s star QB, goes away for the weekend when you’re playing the top team and your team will need you. What also didn’t help for Nothing But D was Marcel getting a ball to the face and bending his nail all the way back and being forced out from the game. I’m not a fan of how Slot Machine operates with their line up, but it works. Karmina Asharyzad is a beast at rushing, accumulating 2 more sacks on the season. She also gets pressure on every snap which means the ball comes out fast and the other ladies playing short are all good tacklers, so this eliminates YAC. Are Slot Machine the best team in the division? Are they going to win it all? My bet would be yes, but we’ll have to wait 5 more weeks to see.
Women’s
Sorry Ladies I missed your games this week. Next week.
That is all for this week. I just want to let you all know that you can send any of us (Terry, Will, Mathieu or myself) little tidbits about your game and we will for sure mention it one way or another. Don’t forget to look out for the MFL Total Access Podcast to be up Wednesday at some point.
Studs & Duds
With how the weather was this past weekend, making my picks were pretty simple. You either dominated on defense or had better traction than the player trying to guard you. Let’s see who I went with.
Studs
Division 1
- Ashton Thibault 10 catches over 100 yards, 2 TDs, 1 1-ponit convert, 1 2-point convert and on defense he made 3 tackles and had 2 picks.
Division 2
- Jérémi Riendeau-Demers 9 catches for 98 yards, 4 TDs and 2 picks on defense.
Division 3
- David Brisson for staying calm and driving the field for the win with 51 seconds on the clock.
Division 4
- Anfernee Garçon 4 picks and ran 1 back to the house for 6 points.
Division 5
- Eric Namts played 2 games and put up 12 catches for 176 yards, 5 TDs, 2 1-point converts and made 4 tackles, 1 sack and had 2 picks on defense.
Women’s
- Edna Pérez 4 picks scoring on 2 of them.
Duds
Division 1
- William Power 3 picks thrown and completing just over 50% of your passes.
Division 2
- Pierre-Olivier Tremblay-Agelakos 4 more picks throw taking his total on the year to 16.
Division 3
- Kris Hope, once again throwing a pass when he was over CAP. I know Jon wants to take the blame, but he wasn’t the one who threw the ball knowing he wasn’t allowed or holding a gun to the player’s head.
Division 4
- Simon Dumas threw 5 picks.
Division 5
- Nicolas Hurtubise 4 picks buddy, keep it up and just a friendly reminder beer in 2 weeks and none of that light crap.
Women’s
- Paola Olivares 4 picks thrown against Crazy B’s in game number 1. I get you’re winning games, but you have to cut these mistakes down if you want to beat the top teams.
Those are you winners for week 9. You can either try harder to make my list or you can go the other way and Bruce Almighty the bed, but in order to make my list you need to have the stat line to prove it. That is unless you have made the same mistake multiple times in the season, then it’s a given that you’re making my list.
