After 2 weeks at Darcy McGee, we went back to Leber and did a number on the grass that was there. We should be incredibly lucky that it didn’t rain until the last slot of the day. Looks like we are back at Darcy McGee this week but for how much longer. Guess we have to see how much these soccer players are little cry babies and complained to city. Those mean people from weeks ago want to start something that they don’t know they can’t win. I can be as petty as the next person; I am a vegetarian for the last 6 years out of spite. I can be there at 7am to set up and then the field is ours since it would be first come first serve if they won’t take reservations on the field. Best part about Saturday and being at Leber was being able to send one of the field lovers to go over and get Pizza for me and I guess Nick as well, damn kids can’t do anything on their own.
Recap
Division 1
Iron Wolves vs Chiefs (49-18)
Both teams were without their starting QB, but Chiefs were missing their backup as well. This mean Elijah needed to step up and play lights out, throwing 5 picks won’t cut it. Chiefs had a bunch of drops, blown coverages on defense and just were out of it by half. Willie did a great job of spreading the ball and taking what was open by the defense.
Busch Boys vs A-Team (32-28)
I know nothing of this game, but I’ve been informed of a name change. It’s now Busch Men not Busch Boys (ed's note: didn't get any memo about this yet, but it also doesn't have the same ring to it).
Division 2
Missed this division this week (ed's note: make sure to tune in to MFL Total Access for full coverage of every game from D2!).
Division 3
Sooners vs Bines (22-6)
This was a shit game to watch. Both teams struggled to do anything with the ball. Diego missed on 3 or 4 fourth down attempts going long when he had players open short. Bines couldn’t get 2 first downs on a drive. The only thing that worked well in this game was Julien Bertrand getting 4 sacks and only allowing Diego to gain 22 yards with his legs. Total yards in this game for both teams was 136.
Phoenix vs Iron Wolves (39-19)
What can I say about this game that Jon was so scared of that he had to plan a trip over the pond to get away from me. Without Jon, Andrew subbed in, and did a decent job. Andrew was 15 of 30 for 104 yards, 3 TDs and 1 pick, plus he added 33 yards on the ground as well. Game started with Phoenix marching inside the redzone before the wind (ed's note: this sounds like an excuse...) took what looked like an easy TD into a pick by Conner who almost scored on it. This gave Iron Wolves great field position and an easy score. After a turnover on downs and Iron Wolves going up 13-0 Phoenix woke up and got things going. Phoenix then went on to score on their next 6 possession and built a big lead. Phoenix knew going in that they need to stop Kris if they wanted a chance to win and I guess holding Kris to 8 catches, 67 yards and a TD was enough since no one else stepped up. Alex was had put a nice game together scoring a TD before getting hurt and leaving the game. Hope you’re ok Alex.
RawSauce vs Horde (13-45)
RawSauce is a mess missing players left right and center, needing to rush players back from injuries just to field a team. Horde on the other hand are firing on all cylinders. Simon has a true number 1 target in St-Jean along with a 1b in Guillaume and the rest of the team isn’t bad as well.
Guillaume had 6 catches for 116 yards and 1 TD, but all those catches and yards don’t have bananas on the 1 handed pick he made. Simon was able to double dip by scoring to end the half and then started the second half with the ball and scoring again. Now the score was 26 nothing and at this point RawSauce was just trying to make a game of it by scoring. Their defense then gave up an easy score and it was back to a 26-point difference. At that point RawSauce had enough and were just out there to finish the game they knew was out of reach.
Division 4
Phoenix vs Improbables (19-6)
We played for colors, winner was going to get the rights to wear green no matter if they are home or away. This was a slow game with both QBs using every tick of the clock and the going short all game. All game form sideline you can hear put me in coach I can get it done and after getting down 19-0 coach decides he had enough from his sideline and threw the chirper out there to see what he could do. Well after the QB tried to fake a handoff to him and Jacob looked back and just takes the ball out of the QBs hands and decided to run. He went left then right, had time to stop take a break signa few autographs for his fans then proceed to run the rest of the way for a TD. Afterwards goes up to Matt now what was so hard about that, I told you give me the ball and get out of my way. Jacob for MVP. Gab had a big game for Phoenix scoring twice on her 3 catches. (ed's note: I'd like to add that Jacob is the youngest player in MFL history to score a touchdown!)
Mimosa Crew vs Ledgendaries (28-19)
Both QBs struggled to keep drives going as they only completed 13 passes each which is well below the 50% completions and they each threw 3 picks. Ilias had a pick 6 as the rusher which is what kept Mimosa Crew in the game since up to then nothing went their way. With a roster like Ledgenadires (ed's note: I wonder how good they'd be if their team name was Legendaries) you expect them to be unstoppable, well that isn’t the case. Ben scoring all 19 points and James had all 3 picks for them, who else stepped up and made plays. They will need that if they want to make waves in the playoffs. On the Mimosa side of the ball if it wasn’t for the pick 6 and a 36 yards TD run from Curren they were mediocre at best and got away with one. A lucky win is better than a pretty lose any day of the week (ed's note: actually, if you ask Willy, mama always says "an ugly win is better than a pretty loss").
Systèmes Urbains vs 100 Genies (18-39)
Gabriel Mercier might be the best player or at least QB in the division and here is why. It was pouring rain when this game was being played and he was throwing 40-yard bombs down field like it was bright and sunny day, then there are his legs where he runs with speed and power. Now if he can cut down on the bad picks, he is all set. It wasn’t a great offensive game for them this week with only Othmane gaining over 40 yards through the air. It was the defense that showed up getting 6 picks and scoring on 1 of them. Systèmes Urbains aren’t a great team, and we all know it (ed's note: ouch), but they do have a few good players and in time they will get better. This is the second time I’ve seen them play plus the time I played against them, and I can tell you they are improving every week (ed's note: nice save). JF had 2 TDs for Systèmes Urbains and Vincent had a sack while rushing and a pick which he returned while playing safety. This Vincent kid will be come a true gamechanger once he learns the ins & Outs of the game.
Division 5
I missed this division, hope to be back catching some action next week (ed's note: make sure to tune in to MFL Total Access for some coverage of some D5 games!).
Women’s
I missed this division, hope to be back catching some action next week (ed's note: make sure to tune in to MFL Total Access for full coverage of every game from the Women's Division!).
I spent a bunch of time in D4 this week and it was nice to see other teams play and get to talk about them. My goal is to talk about each team once and with us using multiple locations in the day sometimes it hard.
Studs & Duds
Just past the halfway point in the season and most player are getting into midseason form and putting up crazy good numbers, but we still have those few players that just show up strap up their cleats and thing its just going to be hand to them. Now let’s see who did what and if they made either of my list.
Studs
Division 1
- Marvin Steinberg pulled in 8 balls for 106 yards, 3 TDs, 1 1-point convert (ed's note: game winning OT convert). Then made 4 tackles and picked Willie once.
Division 2
- Joey Notaro 64 yards on 5 catches and 2 TDs including the winner that put them up 8.
Division 3
- Guillaume Renaud-Dumoulin 1 TD, over 100 yards receiving plus 2 picks on defense.
Division 4
- Antoine Bussieres 4 TDs on 6 catches and over 100 yards oh and a pick on defense.
Division 5
- Jonathan Beaudin 4 picks.
Women’s
- Anne-Marie Côté for coming in with under 9 minutes left down 7 and leading your team on 2 scoring drives and
getting a pick to help your team get their first win of the season.
Duds
Division 1
- That defense for the Chiefs looking like Swiss cheese out there with all those holes.
Division 2
- Kerano Johnson 3.67-yard average catch, you’re a big play guy and that just isn’t going to cut it (ed's note: two of his 6 catches were 1 yard touchdowns, really tough to gain more than 1 yard in those situations...).
Division 3
- Diego Castro Arellano the way mike talks about you 64 yards in the air and 22 yards on the ground just won’t cut it even if you get the W.
Division 4
- Michael Lesniak 6 picks.
Division 5
- Soonies Offense for having 3 different QBs and none getting over 30 yards and putting up no points.
Women’s
- Déesses du Drapeau for half your team not showing up to a big gamer like this.
There you have it my Studs and Duds for week 6. If you’re expecting to see your name in my article you better ball, out put up some considerable numbers and hope that you did more than the other guy. Or you can just come out and play like Dog water and make my list that way.
