Word from the Mouth: Short and Sweet! edition
I won’t lie and try and sugarcoat it, this week’s article is going to be short, sweet, and straight to the point. I’m super late with it as I was traveling all day Monday and like to have it in by Tuesday at some point.
Some good news, well at least for me and only this week, we are back playing at Le Ber. I know you all might like playing on the grass, but it was just easier this week since we have only 4 games playing at once and 7 time slots instead of just 6, so it’s going to be a long smellypants day for some.
Recap
Division 1
I missed out on both these games. All I know is Marvin is back and balled the tiddlywinks out and helped his team win. In the other D1 game, Jon chickened out and let Willie take the loss at QB.
Division 2
Missed out on D2 this week.
Division 3
Phoenix vs Super Friends (13-6)
Don’t know who this guy is, but Olivier St Onge is solid at QB. He subbed this week for Super Friends and if it wasn’t for a bunch of big drops from his players, they might have won the game. Going into this game, Phoenix needed their defense to show up and did they ever. Tyler made it a long day for Olivier, and this led to picks by JF and Josh. With 2 plays left in the half JF jumped a route and looked like he scores on the pick except the ball slipped out of his hands on the 2-yard line. Last play of the half, I threw a bad ball that was dropped which would have been a TD. To start the second half Phoenix started with the ball and was driving, but once again I threw a pass where the ball got away from me and floated high and was picked off by Adam. Instead of double dipping, we walked away with no points. Super Friends had a chance late, but on third down Tyler was there quick and forced a bad ball and on the last play of the game Tyler sealed it with a sack.
Division 4
CIA Fusion vs 100 Genies (18-6)
Drops, drops and more drops. Yes, that’s right, if Genies had caught a few of those passes then drives would have continued and they might have scored more than 6 points. Gabriel Mercier might not be a QB, but he sure can throw it. Jason had a good game on offense not making a crucial error, but he really stepped up his game on defense getting 3 picks and should have been 1 more, but he dropped it.
Bouchers vs Systemes Urbains (44-7)
Lukas threw 7 TDs in the game and threw 2 picks and missed on some throws, but this will be the game that gets Bouchers moving in the right direction. For Systemes Urbains, there are a few issues, but they have Vincent Martel & Guillaume Simard who can both become really good players and should get used a lot more.
MTL Cessnas vs 28-3 (12-8)
JS wasn’t there so Sanketh Chunduri stepped in and got the first win in team history for MTL Cessnas. Massimiliano was the only player to show up for 28-3. Massimiliano had 23 yards and a TD on offense, then made 2 picks on defense. Mario and Emile did what they should, but I can’t get over how Sanketh played. Multiple times he avoided the rusher, kept his eyes looking to throw, and made good reads, but not always a great pass. If you were watching this game, you saw Chrissy take over the game as a rusher. She was all over Nico all game getting 1 sack, at least 1 PD, and forced countless bad throws leading to 3 picks.
Phoenix vs Bandits (18-0)
At the field you either love me like sunshine or hate me like most players do and Bandits found out why. Time management and just being me. Zach Lemaire is a legit rusher and against a less experienced QB he would have had 6 or 7 sacks, but only managed 2 and was there all game long. Phoenix was able to end the first half with Gab scoring from 10 yards out and making a good catch in traffic. Then Phoenix opened the second half with Greg scoring from 12 yards. With Bandits getting the ball being down 12 with 15 minutes left, they needed to put some points up. After an incomplete pass, Nick called the offensive play and Brian made a play on the ball and took it in for 6 points and the icing on the cake.
Division 5
I didn’t catch any games in the division this week, sorry folks.
Women’s
Drama Queen vs Mockingjays (24-12)
Both teams struggled to keep drives going and it makes sense as there were 10 picks in this game. The difference in the game was football IQ and Roxanne has loads of it which led to her getting 3 picks on defense and scoring on 1 of them. Rita Struggled most of the game, but late with a few words from coach Alex, she was able to finish the game with back-to-back scoring drives of 45 and 20 yards. I was more impressed by Mockingjays losing than Drama Queens winning.
Studs & Duds
Did we ever have a lot of players show up and ball the sea monkeys out. Don’t worry we also had a bunch not show up at all, so making my picks were pretty easy.
Studs
Division 1
- Marvin for his 3 TDs, 100 plus yards and a pick on defense all coming off a supposed injury. (ed’s note: and hungover!)
Division 2
- Kerano Johnson 7 catches for 132 yards and 3 TDs.
Division 3
- Nick Egley 7 catches, 109 yards and 2 TDs.
Division 4
- Antoine Bussieres scored 3 TDs, 1 1-point convert, 1 2-point convert and a pick on defense.
Division 5
- Luca Manolache was back under center and did what he does going 13 of 20 for 93 yards, 3 TDs, 1 pick and getting 1 convert. Now let’s see about his legs 12 runs for 74 yards and 2 TDs.
Women
- Florence Léonard 1 TD and 1 pick.
Duds
Division 1
- Rob White being at the game and registering no stats on either side of the ball.
Division 2
- Steve for throwing 3 picks in a D2 game.
Division 3
- Villains defense for giving up 2 rushing TDs to Jon of all people.
Division 4
- Connor Martin threw 4 picks.
Division 5
- Sniffers for not showing up.
Women
- Marie Lewis for her start to the volleyball game she showed up to play. If you know you know.
Those are my week 5 winners and losers. Better luck to everyone who balled out last week and didn’t make my list, you might have to try a bit harder and hope for the best.
