Word from the Mouth: 20-0! edition
Another week down and once again it was raining, cold, and by the end of the day the field was trashed (ed’s note: it really wasn’t that bad!). At least they are getting the week off since all games are at Le Ber this weekend. I don’t want to ruin it, but it looks like it will be nice this weekend, and yes, it’s only Monday and things could change by the weekend.
I get that we are playing football, and everyone thinks they are king buckaroo, but everyone needs to tone it the jeepers down. It’s bad when I must be the voice of reason. I have no filter and say and do whatever the cheese and crackers I want to when I want and no one is going to stop me, but when I’m out on the field playing the game I love, I want to have fun and enjoy myself and not have to worry balderdash is going to go down.
You also must know what you are doing and to whom you are doing it to (ed’s note: if you think Kevin actually wrote “whom” and that wasn’t an edit, you must be among the fortunate few who haven’t met Kevin). I can tell you in all the years I’ve played sports, never once have I gotten into it with another player because I never wanted to get kicked out or miss any games. The season is too short for that phooey. People need to think about what might happen depending on how they react.
The other night while out with Sunshine some fart knocker in a Mercedes parked touching my bumper and didn’t allow me to move out, so after a few minutes of mucking around in the car by using my shirt on my bumper I was able to get out without marks on my car. Can’t say I didn’t add some to his car, but that’s a him problem and maybe they will learn not to be a dick when parking.
Recap
D1
Sorry folks, I didn’t catch either of the games played this week.

Phoenix vs Double Dippers (20-21) OT
What can I say other than I’m trash and should have won this game? We always talk about 2 halves of a game and how easily things can change. In the first half, Double Dippers dropped numerous fourth down balls that would have kept the drive going, but instead they were turnovers. PO should have had an easy pick 6, instead he bobbled it a few times and with my receiver turning around looking for the ball it fell into his hands and he gained 15 yards on the play. It was one of those games where everything went one team’s way. When the second half started, Phoenix was up 20-0 and looked to hold on for what looked like an easy victory. Well, David and Double Dippers had other plans. They didn’t do anything special in the second half, but the 5-yard hooks were turned into 10-yard gains because Phoenix was playing soft defense making them use the clock. After scoring on 3 of 4 possessions in the second half, Double Dippers needed to get a 2-point convert to tie it at 20. We knew what was coming, but with David flooding the zones the defender went too deep into the endzone which allowed Simon to find a hole. OT here we go. Phoenix started on offense and after a miscommunication, the convert was no good and this gave David the chance to find Mason coming across the goal line for the game winning point in OT.
Phoenix vs Tigres (22-19)
Do you believe in miracles because no way Phoenix should have won this game with the roster that they had. This game was played in the pouring rain, and you’d figure that Nestor would use his legs and control the game. For Phoenix, the plan was to control the tempo and not force any bad balls the longer the game was close the better chance we would have to win. The play of the game was when Zach flagged Nestor for a safety in the first half after we scored, and this left time for Phoenix to go down and score to take a 15-6 half time lead. In the second half Tigres made it a 1 score game with 7 minutes left. Now it was time for Kevin to chew the clock and not do anything stupid. With 2 minutes left we were called for rusher interference and with it being third down I called my play, and everyone was like we need yards and I said I’m find with throwing an incomplete pass and punting on fourth with 1 second left in the game. I’m behind center I’m scanning the defense looking for a matchup I like. I see JP who is tall vs a much shorter defender. I call for the snap look right comeback left where I launch it to the endzone where JP hauls it in along the sideline and inside the endzone. This gave Phoenix a 2-score lead and with under a minute the Win. Nestor was able to score after Felipe had a 40-yard catch and run then the drive was capped off with Nestor to Felipe for 7 yards. Game over after that.

Iron Wolves vs Sour Puss (25-6)
This was a game that you could learn a lot. Jon ate every second of the clock on every play and this led to a very quick game being played. It also helped that they were in complete control of this game from the very beginning. Jon was able to find open players all game long on his way to completing 27 of his 33 passes. Carlos stood out to me for two reasons. One was that when given the opportunity, he can make some pretty sick catches and that yes, his offense has stepped up, but his flagging has taken a step back. He had to have missed 3 or 4 sacks and that might be low. Lucas and Fred, if they keep being reliable targets for Jon, will make it exceedingly difficult on defenses. This was the first Sour Puss game I did, and I was impressed by the way they kept it together they just lack experience and that’s what beat them in this game. Every time they were in third or fourth and short, Iron Wolves knew what was coming and had their players in the position to stop the play.
Turf Ninjas vs Top Shooters (45-18)
Before the game Mike asked me if he should pick up PO to play QB and my response was, who else you have to play QB? I tell him straight, if you want a shot at winning then go with PO, but if you want to have fun then go ahead and throw. He went with PO and they didn’t stand much of a chance, but they did have fun and Nigel is an absolute beast. The man had 6 catches for 159 yards and 3 TDs in the pouring rain. How no one in a higher division has picked him up yet is mesmerizing. This Turf Ninja team is loaded with playmakers all over the place. Mat isn’t the same Mat from Brossard last year, this guy has raised his completion percent while raising his TDs and dropping those picks. He should be under consideration for QB of the year if he keeps playing like this. I was talking about Nigel being a beast while in this game and so was Mikelis Rogers who also had 3 TDs and 159 yards receiving on 8 catches not 6. Mikelis might fly under the radar because of the other players around him don’t be fooled he is their best receiver.
D4
I was busy all day playing my games and working other games and missed out on D4 completely, maybe I’ll catch a game or 2 next weekend.
D5
Phoenix vs PickSixers (48-6)
This wasn’t much of a game as Phoenix was able to get rolling right away and score at will. Kevin (ed’s note: the flipping between first and third person has to have something to do with the clear psychotic break that Kevin has had or is currently in progress of having) did a fantastic job of spreading the ball with everyone catching 3 passes and scoring at least 1 TD. The one area Phoenix needs to improve is on converts. For PickSixers they need to play the smart game and stop giving teams short fields all game long, punt the ball. On multiple occasions they went for it with no real shot at getting the first down. Brendan Melnik was their only saving point on defense as he was able to get 2 picks with both being inside the redzone. William needs to get rid of the ball a bit faster and try not throwing into the middle when there are multiple defenders around. I would also try to get the ball into the hands of my better players.
Women’s
Steeleuses vs Crazy B’s (40-0)
Branda Léonard was a below par QB when she played last season with Warriors, but this season she looks like a got dang superstar. She may have only completed 16 of her 32 passes, but they went for 253 yards and 6 TDs. Monica scored 3 TDs on her 4 catches and had 90 yards; her height made her unstoppable. On defense this team swarms to the ball to make tackles and this week they picked off 5 balls with Kelly leading the way with 3 tackles and 2 picks. Crazy Bs are a team that is all about having fun and that’s what they are doing. Zuzana struggles at QB for them, but it’s not all on her. She is new to the position her team isn’t loaded with athletes and most are still learning the game, but they are enjoying themselves and that’s what matters.
Most of the games I covered this week were very one-sided and not fun for anyone involved. I hate when teams run up scores and sometimes it’s being a jerk and sometimes what are you supposed to do? If a team turns the ball over on downs close to the endzone, what do you want me to do? Punt? Don’t I look more like an ass for punting on first down inside the redzone to lose yards (ed’s note: don’t worry, you’ll look like an ass regardless of what you do). I know you’re thinking why would you punt on first down. I’m not throwing 3 incomplete passes on purpose.
Studs & Duds
The last 2 weeks we have had some pretty malarkey weather, though not for all games, and this make it difficult for me to pick my Studs & Duds because if you played early you might have had good weather, where if you played late you played in rain and on mud. Well with that out there, let’s see who I selected for week 4.
Studs
D1
- Joey Notaro 6 tackles 2 picks and scored on 1 of them.
D2
- Ben Faubert 4 catches 65 yards, 3 TDs and he made 1 tackle and had 1 pick on defense in his first game. In game 2 he had 9 catches for 123 yards and 3 TDs plus he had 3 more tackles on defense.
D3
- Benjamin Denis 12 catches 110 yards and 3 TDs, plus 3 tackles on defense.
D4
- Brian Mustard 14 TDs in 2 games and only 3 picks thrown.
D5
- Nicolas Hurtuibise for winning all 3 games he played this weekend, throwing 4 TDs to 2 pick and getting 6 tackles, having 3 picks, and scoring on 1 of them.
Women’s
- Monica Roy 4 catches 90 yards and 3 TDs.
Duds
D1
- Everyone involved in the after-game altercation. Grow up, it’s a bleepin’ game, not the super bowl.
D2
- Kevin Kousaie for blowing a 20-point half time lead and losing the game in OT 21-20.
D3
- Mikelis Rogers for having 1 monster game and then not showing up on the stat sheet for the other game.
D4
- Simon Torres 1 for 15 with 3 picks and only 8 yards.
D5
- Kevin Kousaie for running up the score, even though we didn’t and only scored twice in the second half.
Women’s
- Zuzana Sichova for 5 picks thrown.
Good luck to everyone for next week. If you ball out you might get to see your name up here or take the other approach and suck bad and get on my list that way.
