Word from the Mouth: Tring Tring! edition

Word from the Mouth: Tring Tring! edition

What’s up with this weather? It's October and it’s way too tring tring hot being out all day in the sun. I know most of you love it, but this is not what I signed up for. Fall is supposed to be cooler with rain and a breeze, but instead it's blazing hot, no breeze, and not a cloud to be seen anywhere. I don’t want to jinx it, but you know playoffs are going to be played in a snow storm this year and we will all hate that.

The league has played with it snowing before and your hands do become numb and since Jon won’t allow players to use hand warmers you can’t feel tring tring, so balls are popping up all over the place.

Everyone always picks on the Cowboys and their fans and after last week's loss to Arizona you understand why, but this week they looked like the juggernaut their roster is supposed to be. Being a Packers fan, all off season all I heard from Bears fans was how we weren’t going to win 2 games all season and I just laughed it off. This weekend the Bears were at home against a Denver team that just gave up 70 points to the Dolphins and the Bears were 3.5 point underdogs. The kicker here is the Bears had a 28-7 lead with less than a minute in the 3rd quarter and lost the game 31-28. Now they suck (ed's note: they have always sucked) and Bears fans should be glad they will get the first 2 picks in the draft this year.

Recap

Division 1

Lockdown vs Outlaws (30-40)

Ariel and Svetna killed it for Outlaws scoring all 6 TDs as well as catching 17 balls for 229 yards between them. All those balls and TDs were getting Marvin a bit upset he wasn’t being used to his full capabilities, so he took matters into his own hands and picked off 2 passes and made his presence felt leading the defense. Lockdown kept it close, but it never felt like Outlaws weren’t going to win. Late in the game down 16 points, Lockdown scored and on the convert they failed to get into the endzone so it was a 10 point difference and all Brady needed to do was get a first down and the game was over.

Division 2

Average Joes vs Pocket Rockets (32-36)

In the first half Joes struggle to keep up with Pocket Rockets and if they hadn’t scored late in the first half it wouldn’t have looked that close. At half the score was 21-12 Pocket Rockets. Ryan had a big game scoring 3 time for Joes and Avery had a pick and scored once for them as well and after those two the rest of the team needed to step up. PO did a great job spreading the ball around and keeping everyone involved. The difference in this game was converts. Both teams converted 1 2-point convert but Pocket Rockets also converted on their other 4 1-point attempts as well. Wouldn’t you know it the difference in the game was those 4 converts.

Division 3

Pocket Rockets vs Mustard Tigers (36-0)

Pocket Rockets looked very good in this game. PO didn’t have any issue finding wide open players. Where Pocket Rockets stepped up their game was on defense where they had 6 picks. I don’t want to get too much into this game and both teams will agree this game meant nothing because Mustard Tigers were without Brian playing QB, so Tom and Victor both filled in and struggled since neither are real QBs.

Phoenix vs Red Cats (39-40)

Who knew this game was going to be this close? Red Cats got up 14 early and it looked like they were just going to roll right through Phoenix with no trouble. That’s when things started to click for Phoenix. JF had a beautiful 25-yard TD on a post route followed by the 1-point convert. Late in the first half Phoenix scored and then got a pick and followed that up with another score making it a 20-19 game Red Cats lead. Second half was back and forth with both teams matching score as well as picks. After Red Cats scored to go up 40-31 with 2:30 left in the game Phoenix needed to score and get the stop. Normally I would take chunk plays, but I was able to hit Jeremy for a quick 45-yard TD and followed that up with a 2-point convert to Simon. Now Phoenix needed to play defense and had all 3 timeouts left. Very first play Jeremy jumped a route and looked to have an easy score on the play, but somehow the ball slipped out of his hands and two plays later Avery hits Nick for a first down to seal the game.

Division 4

Top Shooters vs Drama Club (36-44)

Biggest surprise of the weekend. Top Shooters are loaded with athletes and were playing Drama Club that was only 6 players. The big difference in this game was the strategy used by both QBs. Simon was looking to control the game and Marvin was looking for the big plays. Roxanne was the one player Top Shooters needed to stop, but just couldn’t figure out how to. She was able to catch 10 passes and scored 3 TDs. At half, Drama Club were up 25-14 and they were starting with the ball. Simon lead them on a scoring drive to open the second half and then Nico picked off a pass from Marvin and scored on it making the score 38-14. They rallied back to make a game of it and with under 5 minutes left were only down 6. Simon was able to get a few first downs and the game was over.

Iron Wolves vs Sour Peeps (21-26)

I just caught the drama from the end of this game. Last play of the game Iron Wolves need to score to win and were less than 20 yards out. Jason had trips on one side and one on one on the other side and instead of throwing it up where multiple players were, he went the other way and the ball went out of bounds. Kris then started yelling how the ball should have just been thrown up to the trips side where more players were. Not sure what happened afterwards, but they did play their next game together. (ed's note: wat?)

Division 5

Phoenix vs Blue Badgers (0-26)

This was supposed to be a matchup between the 2 top teams in the division except 1 team was short half their roster and the other wasn’t. Blue Badgers showed up and outplayed Phoenix in every aspect of the game. Oliver was able to pick apart the defense and then their defense was able to get 6 picks and 3 sacks. Phoenix couldn’t move the ball and anytime they got something going a ball was popped up and lead to an interception. I know that if these two teams meet again in playoffs it will be a different game with both teams being full rosters and maybe this time I won’t be sick and throwing up in between plays (ed's note: Nice! I was hoping we'd get some sweet, sweet Kevin excuses. It's like sugar to me!). I know it sounds like excuses (ed's note: because it is!), but I can admit Blue Badgers are a very good team and with both teams being at full strength are they 26 points better than Phoenix?

That’s what I have for you in way of recaps hope you enjoyed and of you need more wait until Wednesday night for Terry and Will on MFL Total Access.

Studs & Duds

6 weeks down, 4 weeks to go. This week I had to make a few hard choices to make and a few of you made it easy for me with the performance you put out. Here are this week’s winners and losers.

Studs

Division 1

- Ariel Librati made 11 catches for 117 yards, 4 TDs 1 2point convert and made 4 tackles on defense as well.

Division 2

- Alexandre Vallières scored 4 TDs on 7 catches and had 108 yards plus he made 4 tackles on defense.

Division 3

- Jeremi Thompson O'Reilly went 17 of 25 for 134 yards, 4 TDs and 1 1point convert through the air. He also ran 7 times for 48 yards, made 6 tackles and had a pick on defense.

Division 4

- Tyler Znoj 6 catches for 85 yards, 3 TDs and 1 1point convert. Tyler also made 2 tackles and had 2 picks. Not bad for a rusher who can’t catch.

Division 5

- Olivier Watier was 27 of 38 for 224 yards, 4 TDs and 2 1point converts, plus 3 picks and 3 tackles on defense.

Duds

Division 1

- Tyler Znoj 1 sack isn’t going to cut it when people might consider you as one of the top rushers in the league.

Division 2

- Alexandre Szalipszki 1 catch for 1 yard not impressive at all.

Division 3

- Mustard Tigers for giving up 86 points while scoring none.

Division 4

- Simon Dumas under 100 yards passing, completion % under 33, 2 picks and being shutout.

Division 5

- Kevin Kousaie for throwing 6 picks.

There you have it, my Studs & Duds for week 6 and for the first time we had a player make both lists in the same week. You still have plenty of time to make it onto my list, all you have to do is ball out or tring tring the bed. If you do either or both you have a shot at cracking the list.

Predictions and Power Rankings Week 6

Predictions and Power Rankings Week 6

Predictions

It’s that time of the week where I try to tell you who is going to win. After 5 weeks Willie sits in the lead with the only passing grade of 60%. Now to my picks which have sucked all season.

Division 1

Outlaws vs Lockdown

Their offense is too strong.

A-Team vs Centurions

They are just the better team.

Jagerbomb vs Iron Wolves

Jagerbomb are missing a few players that play key roles.

Division 2

KOLB vs Average Joes

Just a gut feeling.

Average Joes vs Pocket Rockets

Pocket Rockets have lost a few close games and they will have the lead going into the final drive where Iggy finds a way to reach the endzone and steal the win.

Thunder Buddies vs Idaho Udapimp

It looks like Idaho are going to be missing players and with everyone on their team playing multiple teams and this game being at 5 they will be worn down by gametime.

Division 3

Pocket Rockets vs Mustard Tigers

They have the better athletes.

Villains vs Double Dippers

Villains will be lost and confused on offense, always looking for the big play against a really good Double Dippers defense.

RawSauce vs Mustard Tigers

Brian finds a way late to get it done in a low scoring game.

Phoenix vs Red Cats NA

I don’t pick my team’s games.

Division 4

Trolling Holers vs Udapimp Idaho

Josh won’t have the same type of game as last week.

Sour Peeps vs Iron Wolves

More experience and better team.

Trolling Holers vs Jagys and Chill

They are loaded with talent and have the better QB.

Cyclones vs Iron Wolves

Cyclones are a lost cause at this point of the season. Too much is going on with this team.

Mustard Cubs vs Sour Peeps

More experience and better team.

Top Shooters vs Drama Club

They are way more athletic.

High on Audibles vs Bines Low Fat

Better QB and better athletes.

Royale with Cheese vs Airborne

Both teams struggle to score but Royale with Cheese have the better defense.

Division 5

Bear Hood vs Slot Machines

More organized and have the best player on the field.

Binettes vs Low Expectations

More experienced.

Legendaries vs Jungle Squad

Stronger top end of the roster.

Dancing Zebras vs Big Booties

Max will have a field day in this game.

Drama Club vs TD Hunters

Better QB.

Blue Badgers vs Phoenix NA

I don’t pick my team’s games.

Les Last Calls vs Grizzlies

More complete team.

My Ball Zach Ertz vs Los Pollitos

Sam will do everything needed to win.

Binettes vs Drama Club

Nico just says sakra (ed’s note: I’m in Prague!) and throws the ball instead of holding onto it for that extra second.

Nomades vs Tropic Thunder

Better chemistry.

There you have it, my picks for week 6.

Final Thoughts

I’m glad to see that everyone picked up their garbage this week and didn’t leave it laying on the field.

This week I’m pretty sure Terry and Jon won’t be there again and that means I’m in charge and I take all bribes. You just have to let me know what you want done, what you’re paying, and you have to keep it hush hush, so no one knows what’s going on.

Before I let you go, please remember we are playing a game for fun, so go out, have fun, enjoy yourself, and don’t kill anyone.

Word from the Mouth: Pathetic Stats! edition

Word from the Mouth: Pathetic Stats! edition

Half the season is now in the bag and so far, there have been loads of close games and I think we have had the most OTs in a season and it’s only half over.

This week I was left in charge with Jon being in Europe for vacation and Terry down in Miami for his bachelor party and it went off without any issues. (ed’s note: literally had a game without a scorekeeper for the first time in MFL history…) Games were all played, garbage was picked up and no one died, so that’s good. I’ve been doing this for almost 10 years so there shouldn’t have been any issue in the first place.

This week I’m going to try and keep the article short, but I also want to talk about every game since I’m not sure Terry or Willie will have anything to say since they weren’t at the field and might not have heard what went down. My goal is to write 2 lines about each game and that’s it. Here goes nothing.

Recaps

Division 1

Jagerbomb vs Lockdown (28-33)

Lockdown jumped up early and Jagerbomb started to get back into it late, but it was too late at that point. Jagerbomb were missing JF, but Maxime filled in nicely for him getting 15 catches scoring twice as well as picking off 2 passes.

Centurions vs A-Team (32-44)

First half went back and forth with Centurions holding a 26-20 lead at half. Second half rolled around and A-Team made some adjustments and took control of the game. When Jeremy scored with 12 minutes left, A-Team had a 38-32 lead and both teams struggled to score after that. Dave was able to seal the game very late with a 37 yards TD pass to Charles.

Division 2

Nice TDs vs Average Joes (31-40)

Holowach would have had a better day under center than Iggy except he threw 3 picks which led to 12 points for Average Joes. Iggy sealed the game on his opening drive of the second half by scoring and going up 9 points. Now he just couldn’t make any big mistakes and he didn’t.

Pocket Rockets vs Thunder Buddies (27-32)

One drive into the second half and Pocket Rockets had a 3 score lead and looked to be on easy street. With under 5 minutes Steve had Thunder Buddies up by 6. This left PO a shot at a game winning drive. PO lead Pocket Rockets down the field on 4 plays with 2 incomplete passes and 2 completions to Alexis. This left 2:24 left on the clock. Steve wasn’t able to bleed the entire clock, but found Rob for the winning score with under 30 seconds left in the game.

Idaho Udapimp vs KOLB (40-22)

Simon was still filling in for Brady and he picked apart the KOLB defense and held a 27-8 lead at halftime. With a bit over 10 minutes left Jeremi scored a 37-yard TD and it looked like KOLB was going to make a game of it, then Eric scored on a 45 yard play to seal the game.

Pocket Rockets vs KOLB (32-37)

Both QBs put up nice numbers except for the combined 5 picks they threw. Alexis scored 3 times for Pocket Rockets which is great unless a player like Alexandre from KOLB scores 4 times. Pocket Rockets scored with 4 plus minutes left and needed a big stop to have a chance at it, but couldn’t get it done.

Idaho Udapimp vs Nice TDs (37-21)

Game was only played until half and Nice TDs had picked up subs. For me this game didn’t really count or prove anything.

Division 3

RawSauce vs Villains (38-7)

No stats were kept from this game (ed’s note: “...it went off without any issues…”), and I didn’t hear anything about this game when it was happening. I was at Le Ber and when I returned to Arthur Therrien later in the day it seemed like RawSauce had already drank enough and had headed home before I got there.

Phoenix vs Double Dippers (22-32)

This game Phoenix looked on a mission early, getting up 2 scores after forcing a few punts. The issue was Phoenix just couldn’t put the dagger in far enough. At half Phoenix was up 1 score when it could have easily been 2 or 3. David kept his team close and late in the game Double Dippers took full control of this game.

Red Cats vs Pocket Rockets (13-18)

Pocket Rockets opened the game scoring and finished off the first half scoring as well. They managed to score once in between those points. This wasn’t a clean game as there were too many mistakes made at crucial times that stopped drives. The first half flew by with both teams making plays and scoring, the second half took a bit longer and there was no scoring which is very surprising.

Division 4

Mustard Cubs vs Top Shooters (13-14)

Tom opened the game scoring on Mustard Cubs first 2 drives and did squat after that. Top Shooters were missing their QB, so Ryan filled in and it took him until the second half to get things rolling. Top Shooters won the game because of the 2-point convert to Nigel.

Udaho Idapimp vs High on Audibles (30-33)

Simon was away so David filled in at QB and made this a very exciting game. This went back and forth all game with the big difference being the end of half points. Rob led a scoring drive in the first half and in the second half David lead Udaho on a scoring drive leaving 22 seconds on the clock, but that was plenty of time for Rob to throw up a pray to Mat Gratton for a 45-yard score and the win.

Trolling Holers vs Airborne (40-12)

Josh played a great game at QB, which is something I thought I’d never have to write, but this week he owned the game going off for 170 yards and 5 TDs. He got help from the defense who had 3 sacks and 4 picks.

Sour Peeps vs Jagys and Chill (8-36)

Both teams were without their starting QB, and it made a huge difference. Olivier really struggled, only completing 3 passes for 19 yards. Any QB would have a hard time moving the ball against this team, but a newbie doesn’t stand a chance.

Iron Wolves vs Royale with Cheese (8-12)

This is a very surprising outcome. Jason was there for Iron Wolves, and he struggled like I’ve never seen before. He only had 76 yard passing and just seemed off. Royale had Gab filling in for Yann and he didn’t look much better, only getting 82 yards and throwing 5 picks, but he was able to reach the endzone twice on passes to Massil to get the W.

Cyclones vs Drama Club (14-35)

I know Alex is learning to play QB, but I’m hearing things aren’t sitting pretty with Cyclones. There is too much going on and they seem off. At half it was an 8-point game then the second half started, and Simon picked apart the Cyclones defense with little problems.

Division 5

Tropic Thunder vs Big Booties (28-18)

Max once again made his presence felt on defense getting 2 picks and scoring on 1 of them. I called it in my article last week that Mark would have 4 sacks and be the difference in the game and he did and was.

Drama Club vs Phoenix (18-37)

Nico didn’t play poorly for Drama Club, but he was holding onto the ball a bit too long when he had open receivers. This helped Phoenix end the game with 7 sacks. Gab was a beast on both sides of the ball for Phoenix getting 5 sacks and catching 6 balls for 62 yards and 1 TD.

Low Expectations vs Bear Hood (18-49)

This game was completely 1 sided. David had his best game playing QB by far and all he needs to do now is cut down on those picks and they could be a dangerous team. Simon had 2 picks and 1 was a beautiful 1 handed pick.

Grizzlies vs Dancing Zebras (54-12)

Dancing Zebras opened the scoring on their second drive and then it was all downhill from there. Grizzlies scored at will and from anywhere on the field. They got up so big they were trying new players at QB and had 2 different players throw 3 TDs each.

Binettes vs Jungle Squad (14-19)

Gold filled in at QB for Jungle Squad and got them up 13-6 at half. They opened the second half with the ball and scored quickly to take a 19-6 lead. Mathieu got it within 1 score with 10 minutes left. Binettes had 3 possessions with the ball after that and those drives ended with 2 picks and a turnover on downs.

Legendaries vs Les Last Calls (34-33)

Guillaume tried to go deep too many times in this game and it just wasn’t there. The Legendaries defense knew what to expect and took that away from them. This is the first-time all-season Seb has finished a game under 100 yards for Les Last Calls. After giving up a TD and the lead, Jason had 52 seconds to lead Legendaries 45 yards for the game winning TD. Jason ran to give him some space, then found Gordon twice for the remaining yards to the endzone with the second one with clocks at zero.

Los Pollitos vs Slot Machines (15-27)

Sam once again accounted for multiple scores in different ways for Los Pollitos. This time he threw a TD, caught a TD and had a safety on defense. The big story coming out from this game is that Giovanni Antonacci put up respectable numbers at QB and did a nice job of spreading the ball and keeping the defense guessing.

TD Hunters vs Blue Badgers (0-21)

I was told the score makes it seem closer than it was because it was one sided. Gold threw 6 picks and couldn’t get anything going all game. Olivier had a high completion percent, but didn’t have tons of yards which is expected when your defense gets 6 picks and gives you a short field all game. Blue Badgers have a very good defense and will get better on offense as the season goes on.

Les Last Calls vs My Ball Zach Ertz (31-26)

Most of the scoring was done in the first half. With 5:39 left in this game My Ball Zach Ertz were up 26-25, until Seb picked off a pass and ran it back for 6 points giving Les Last Calls the lead. Guillaume had time to drive down to try and win the game, but ended up turning the ball over with less than a minute left.

Nomades vs Mimosa Crew (18-31)

Both teams had subs at QB and it came down to who’s defense played better. Mimosa Crew killed it on defense getting 6 picks and 2 1-point convert return picks as well. Nomades defense played well getting 3 sacks and 2 picks, but they didn’t have the offense to keep them in this game.

There you have it, my week 5 recap. Hope you enjoyed.

Studs & Duds

It’s becoming more and more like real football weather out there and more and more of you are stepping up your game just to make my list and this week you made it hard for me to pick, but I managed (ed’s note: my hero!). Here are this week’s winners and losers.

Studs

Division 1

- Philip Charpentier had 8 catches for 85 yards, 2 TDs and 1 2point convert. Phil also made 2 tackles and had 1 pick on defense.

Division 2

- Alexandre Vallières scored 4 TDs and 77 yards on 4 catches, he also made 4 tackles on defense.

Division 3

- Alec Grégoire 5 catches for 92 yards, 2 TDs and 1 1point convert. Alec made 6 tackles on defense as well.

Division 4

- Mason Miller 8 catches for 61 yards and 3 TDs plus he made 4 tackles on defense.

Division 5

- Gabrielle Chaput 6 catches 62 yards and 1 TD. On defense Gab made 8 tackles with 5 of them being sacks.

Duds

Division 1

- Andrew Grant 1 catch and 1 tackle are pathetic stats for a player of your caliber.

Division 2

- Nice TDs for not having enough players to finish their game at 5pm.

Division 3

- Kevin Kousaie for not being able to close the game off in the first half.

Division 4

- Jason McAleer for not turning his team’s 5 defensive picks into more points.

Division 5

- Goldrick for the 6 picks he threw.

If you didn’t make my list, better luck next week and if you did make it congratulations and for those of you on the bad list, you’ll need to try harder, or you might end up there again this week.

Predictions and Power Rankings Week 5

Predictions and Power Rankings Week 5

Predictions

Last week the entire media team made good picks and we were really hoping that we can keep it up moving forward. Well, that didn’t last long with Willie winning this week with a fabulous 58% correct picks. At this point none of us sit over 60% and we might want to flip a coin since our picks have mostly sucked all season. Now for my picks in bold like always.

Division 1

Jagerbomb vs Lockdown

JF isn’t there for Jagerbomb and they aren’t the same team when he is missing.

A-Team vs Centurions

They have too many explosive players for Centurions to stop.

Division 2

Nice TDs vs Average Joes

Average Joes are no longer the most athletic team in the division, and they are having a hard time and that will continue this week.

Pocket Rockets vs Thunder Buddies

I’m not 100% sure who is playing QB this week for Thunder Buddies.

Idaho Udapimp vs KOLB

They have more talent on their team and wont play around taking it easy and trying new things.

Pocket Rockets vs KOLB

They have more height so I can see PO throwing numerous jump balls inside the redzone.

Idaho Udapimp vs Nice TDs

I wanted to pick Idaho, I just think that Vinny is too smart of a QB and Demario will be hard to stop.

Division 3

RawSauce vs Villains

They are more organized.

Phoenix vs Double Dippers NA

I don’t pick my team’s games.

Red Cats vs Pocket Rockets

Avery being able to run is going to be the difference in this game.

Division 4

Mustard Cubs vs Top Shooters

There are too many dogs on this D4 team to lose unless Marvin chokes.

Udaho Idapimp vs High on Audibles

Rob is a more seasoned QB and knows hat to call and when to call it.

Trolling Holers vs Airborne

They are the better team, but Josh will need to protect the ball and not force any stupid throws.

Jaggy and Chill vs Sour Peeps

Sour Peeps just aren’t ready for this type of competition, yet they are still getting use to D4.

Iron Wolves vs Royale with Cheese

I have a better feeling about Jason under center than I do Yann.

Cyclones vs Drama Club

It’s going to be very difficult for Drama Club to stop Alex from running and try and take out Lazar at the same time.

Division 5

Tropic Thunder vs Big Booties

Mark is going to be too much for Rob, and this will lead to 4 sacks and 3 picks for their defense.

Drama Club vs Phoenix NA

I don’t pick my team’s games.

Low Expectations vs Bear Hood

They team has loads of experience and David should be able to have a good game with his legs.

Grizzlies vs Free Agent Team #1

They have a team name and they have a good roster and are athletic.

Binettes vs Jungle Squad

They have more talent and they just need to figure out what works for them.

Ledgendaries vs Les Last Calls

Guillaume is the better QB in this matchup and he also has more chemistry with his team than Ben does.

Les Last Calls vs My Ball Zach Ertz

Seb is the best player on the field and it will be very hard to stop him.

Los Pollitos vs Slot Machines

Sam is very hard to stop, and they will have a hard time doing that.

TD Hunters vs Blue Badgers

They play good defense and will get a few short fields to work with.

Les Nomades vs Mimosa Crew

Mimosa Crew is missing their QB and last time that happened they didn’t look good at all.

There you have it, my picks for week 5.

Power Rankings

We are almost halfway through the season and no one has made a claim that they are the best team in the division and the one to beat. It’s getting close to that time where teams start to pull away from one another, but this season I just don’t see it happening in most divisions.

Division 1

1- A-Team

2- Outlaws

3- Iron Wolves

Division 2

1- Nice TDs

2- Idaho

3- Thunder Buddies

Division 3

1- Double Dippers

2- Red Cats

3- RawSauce

Division 4

1- Bines Low Fat

2- High on Audibles

3- Udaho Idapimp

4- Mustard Cubs

5- Top Shooters

Division 5

1- Phoenix

2- Blue Badgers

3- Grizzlies

4- Big Booties

5- Les Last Calls

Just because your team hasn’t made it onto my list yet doesn’t mean you won’t and if you keep winning games it will make it hard for me to not put your team on it.

Final Thoughts

Last weekend I was so looking forward to seeing Colorado play knowing they were playing the late game and knowing that College Gameday was going to be on site for this game only to get home and it not be televised. This is a bunch of horse kisses. You, me, and everyone else wanted to watch and see for themselves if the hype is real. Colorado won but it had to go to double OT, which is very surprising and concerning at the same time.

It seems the NFL is cursed for Monday night games. You can go back and see the last 4 games and 4 star players have gone down and ended their season. We all know the NFL is crap and only cares about the money, but with the number of players getting hurt and missing time there is movement on getting every NFL field to be natural grass and no more of the synthetic turf crap. To me you need to play the game outdoors on grass, poppycock to the domes and fiddle faddle the turf.

Before I let you go, remember we are playing a game for fun, so go out, have fun, and don’t kill anyone. See you Saturday.

Word from the Mouth: Poppycock! edition

Word from the Mouth: Poppycock! edition

What a great weekend it turned out to be for football. It was warm, but not too hot. Breezy, but not too windy. And most of the games turned out to be close.

Last season we introduced a new rule about swearing and everyone hated the way the rule was being enforced, so we made changes to it, and it seems to be better this way. You can normally hear at least a few swears every weekend, but this weekend I didn’t notice any. Is it because players are getting smarter about when and how they swear? Are we the refs just tuning it out or has it stopped completely?

Recaps

Division 1

Iron Wolves vs Centurions (45-30)

Demario had 9 more yards running (150) than passing (141) in the game. Anyone who plays defense knows a running QB is so hard to stop, especially if he can throw as well. Avery scored 3 TDs for Iron Wolves. On the Centurions side they had Yvan and Vincent both go over the 100 yard mark, but the next receiver only had 30 yards. Defensively they had 3 sacks, but they found it too hard to contain Demario and that’s why they lost.

A-Team vs Jagerbomb (44-18)

Both teams were missing players and if everyone is there I lean towards A-Team winning, but in a much closer game. Defense was the key for A-Team getting 3 sacks and 3 picks, while scoring on 1 of them. Jagerbomb had issues keeping drives going and that’s where missing JF really hurt them.

Division 2

Idaho Udapimp vs Pocket Rockets (38-28)

At halftime this game was tied at 20 with PO finding Alexis on the last play of the half. Second half rolls around, and Pocket Rockets started with a stop and once they got the ball, they marched down to score and take the lead. Idaho had 3 possessions after that and scored on all 3 of them.  Pocket Rockets couldn’t do anything when they had the ball, they had 2 picks and ended the game with the ball not being able to score. In the second half of this game, you could see PO was in a bit of pain and was having a little issue with his arm.

Division 3

Phoenix vs Villains (22-32)

I won’t lie, this was a game I wanted to win and show Terry and Willie we are better than our record shows and the game couldn’t have started better for us. Phoenix forced a turnover on downs and scored a few plays later and then forced another turnover on downs, but this time couldn’t score. Not only did Phoenix have them turn it over twice on downs, they then forced a punt. After that it started to fall apart for Phoenix. We couldn’t score, make tackles, or play coverage. Terry torched us after those first 3 possessions and had a 26-7 lead at half. In the second half Villains struggled as Phoenix crawled back into the game making it a 26 to 21 game. Then Riccardo took all the momentum when he picked off a no look pass and scored on the play to make it 32-21. On the convert Terry was picked off and then beat down the sideline in the slowest 50 yard run for 1 point ever in MFL history. If it wasn’t for the pick 6 Phoenix might have won that game, but it happened and it gave Villains the win.

Division 4

Airborne vs Top Shooters (6-26)

This was a tough game for Airborne since the matchup wasn’t in their favor. Leo is still learning to play QB and Top Shooters have a defense full of ballers that know what they are doing, or at least it seems like it. Nigel is a beast and had 2 picks plus a TD on offense. The thing that stood out most to me was Marvin and how he has progressed as a QB. Last season he would only feed the ball to one or two players and run on almost every other play, this week he was 14 of 22 and completed passes to 9 different players with the top player only having 3 catches. Top Shooters wanted the shutout, but with 1:21 left in the game Airborne were able to score on a pass to Hasan.

Division 5

TD Hunters vs Binettes (19-12)

This match could have gone either way, but it was the little details that made the difference. Albert was playing his first game of the season and it was at the QB position that it was going to happen. Still, both QBs looked comfortable as they both completed over 60% of their passes and most of their drives ended in the red zone. However, TD Hunters had one more touchdown and that's all it takes to win. Also, each team clearly had a favorite target, and it gave us a spectacular showdown between Thomas and Justin. Despite an amazing one-handed diving catch from Thomas, the 3 passes defended by Justin are one of the reasons to explain the low success rate of Binettes in the redzone.

Phoenix vs Los Pollitos (37-30)

I have played numerous times against Los Pollitos and this was the best they have played against one of my teams ever. Sam was only able to score in 2 different ways this week, since he was playing QB all game. Sam picked off a pass early and scored off it and ran one in later in the game. LP balled out for Los Pollitos scoring 2 TDs and making 4 tackles and having 2 sacks. Kat had another monster game this week scoring 2 TDs and a convert on offense while also picking off 1 pass and knocking another away that fell to Jorge who ended up with the pick. With Phoenix missing a few players, Chrissy stepped up and filled the void by scoring twice. Late in the game Los Pollitos got a pick and scored a play later to make it 37-30, but if you were at the game, you know Phoenix controlled the game.

That’s all I have for you on recaps, but look for Terry to post the podcast on Wednesday if you want more.

Studs & Duds

It’s that time of the week where I get to pick who I felt balled out and who failed to make an impact. My picks aren’t always the same as what gets put up on website but sometimes, they are. I like making my picks based off stats and key plays in the game that affected the outcome.

Studs

Division 1

- Demario Cooper ran for 150 yards on 13 carries and scored 2 TDs. Then you add in the 141 yards passing, 5 TDs and 1 1point convert and 1 2point convert, he also made 4 tackles on defense.

Division 2

- Vinny Gualano went 33 of 43 for 330 yards, 7 TDs, 1 1point convert and made 5 tackles.

Division 3

- Ricardo Antonio Gutierrez Orsini (fat Lamar) for securing the win with a pick 6.

Division 4

- Jean-Francois Rolland-Leclerc was 15 of 23 for 143 yards, 5 TDs, 2 1point converts, JF also ran 3 times for 19 yards and made 2 tackles along with 2 picks.

Division 5

- Benjamin Mallette was 21 of 35 for 251 yards, 5 TDs, 1 1point convert, 1 2point convert. Ben also ran 6 times for 53 yards and had 2 tackles on defense.

Duds

Division 1

- Meis 1 catch for 8 yards and 2 tackles, is well below what I expect to see from you.

Division 2

- PO for throwing 8 picks in 2 games and going 0-2 in those games.

Division 3

- Benjamin Malette 3 catches for 10 yards in 2 games. I thought you were better than that.

Division 4

- Alexandre Szalipszki completing 36% of your passes along with 4 picks and averaging 2.88 yards a run.

Division 5

- Curren Dewan for not getting a third receiver involved in the game.

There are your winners and losers for week 4.

Congratulations if you made my list and better luck next week for those that didn’t make it.
