Word from the Mouth: The Rain Has Only Just Begun! edition
What a weekend for football. We had all sorts of weather. It started out looking overcast with a little drizzle, then went to cloudy and by the 5 pm game it was pouring. I’m glad to see that the few fans that were dragged out by their significant others weren’t to upset by it.
I’m guessing since people aren’t aware of park rules, we will go over them. You are not allowed to smoke inside that fenced area that also includes vaping. If you must urinate at Le Ber there are a few porta-potties and if you really find that gross like I do, just walk up towards the fence by the train tracks and piss there. At Arthur Therrien there is a chalet that is open as of 9 am, so you can go there. No excuses for not using them.
Last week when I arrived at Arthur Therrien everyone was waiting outside the fence area, and I was quite surprised that no one hopped over. With the way the schedule is made there is a possibility for that to happen a few more times this season, but as players you don’t need to worry you will be given a few minutes to warm up and get ready. Unless you happen to be playing one of my teams, then we are taking the points. Now for this week’s recaps.
Recap Week 6
Division 1
Outlaws vs Gros Coqs (25-19)
I’m going to make this very short, only because Willie was filling in for Steve at QB and should talk about it on the podcast. First half was 7-6 Outlaws as both teams were struggling to keep drives going. In the second half when the weather was getting worse, they both seemed to pick it up a bit. This is a game that 5 years ago Dom would have eaten the Outlaws up all game with his legs, but now he looks to throw rather than run. The thing that made the difference was Tyler kept after Dom and forced him to make a few bad throws that led to picks including a pick 6 by Marvin. Late in the game Gros Coqs were driving and looking to tie the game, but Marvin had other plans and stepped up and ended the game with a pick.
Division 2
I didn’t happen to see the one game from this division this week, but Terry was there and can tell you all about it.
Division 3
Pocket Rockets vs Phoenix (45-24)
The game started off with PO driving the field and scoring followed by Owie getting beat on a post, but lucky for him Ali saved his ass with a deflection and somehow the ball falls into his hands. After that teams started to settle in with Phoenix scoring with under 8 minutes left to tie it at 6. Pocket Rockets marched the field and score taking a 12-6 lead and leaving 2:30 on the clock. That was plenty of time for Phoenix to march the field, get inside the red zone, and have the ball slip out as I was going to throw it to a wide-open receiver on last plan of half. Instead of a TD, Baby Maynard got 1 of his 3 sacks on me. Second half was all Leo as he went off and got 4 of his 5 TDs and 2 1-point converts, even when we had players all over him, he still caught the ball. I know its not good sportsmanship to knock a player while they are down, but I really hope Owie will be ok after his ankles were shattered by the fattest slowest QB in D3. PO played great in this game, but Leo was a dog who seemed to be let off the lease this week and dominated this game.
Mustard Tigers vs Bines (26-32)
Bines pulled off the huge win in this one. Victor was a beast for Mustard Tigers and by far their best player in this game. The play of the game for them came from old man John who was looking fresh out there this week getting a pick 6 and giving them a 19-13 lead. In the second half Bines controlled the game. They scored on their first possession after getting a stop on defense then got a pick right on Brian’s first throw which led to Bines having a 32-19 lead. After that Brian settled down and was able to lead a scoring drive which meant it was time for their defense to step up and they did twice with stops. Still with a 32-26 lead Bines needed to play defense one last drive to keep the lead and Brian looked good on the first few throws, but then on third and fourth down the balls he threw weren’t so nice with one being overthrown and the other being knocked away. The game ended that way, but maybe if Tom had been a bit cooler with his shelter they would have gotten a few extra calls.
Division 4
Udaho Idapimp vs Bines Low Fat (38-13)
I was really expecting to see a very tight game in this one, but that wasn’t the case. Udaho came out on fire and never took their foot off the pedal. Mason was David’s main target catching 10 balls for 88 yards and 2 TDs, but David was also able to get the rest of the team involved in the game. Defensively Udaho was solid getting 3 picks 2 by David which were both right to him and Simon jumping a quick out and running it in for 6. The defense was too much for Bines this week. JF was flustered most of the game, though Thomas made a few big catches for him and Mathieu was solid like he always is, but the rest of the team needs to step up. When Bines had Simon, he was that guy that led the defense and made plays on offense whenever they were needed. Thomas is becoming that guy, but he needs help from another player. The game started out nice, but as it went on it started to get wet and wild out there and David had better control of the ball compared to JF. I can’t wait to see what happens when these 2 teams play in the playoffs.
Division 5
Tropic Thunder vs Titans (26-19)
I was a bit shocked to see the game be this close. Titans were without Ben who is by far the best player in this division and it’s not even close and yet were still able to keep it a 1 score game. Stu was a beast on the opening drive catching everything that came his way and even getting some yards after the catch. Barbara subbed for them and caught her only pass off a deflection for a TD on the opening drive for Tropic Thunder. Mark had 2 TDs and 1 2-point convert to go along with his 3 sacks and would have had more, but stepped out once maybe twice. Titans QB Robert looked great today making good reads and putting some zip on the ball. Steve “I pee where I want to when it’s an emergency Biddle” caught everything short and Austin was the deep player for them. If Robert wants to become a better QB he needs to get more of the team involved and not just rely on those 2 players. What else do I remember about this game? Mark was wide open on at least 1 of his TDs, Biddle fell on his face and got covered in mud, I think that’s it.
Studs & Duds
At the halfway point of the season and a few of you have made the list more than once, I even think a player or two have made it on both lists and a few players I expected to make the list haven’t, or at least not yet. Here are this week’s winners.
Studs
Division 1
- Laurent Foucault balled out getting 2 TDs on 10 catches for 71 yards total. He also made 5 tackles and had 2 picks.
Division 2
- Felix Fontaine-Larouche caught 6 balls for 63 yards, 3TDs and 1 1point convert as well as making 1 tackle on defense.
Division 3
- Leonidas Aubert scored 5 TDs on 8 catches for a total of 153 yards, he also had 2 1point converts. Then on defense he made 6 tackles.
Division 4
- David Brisson was able to complete 24 of his 30 passes for 197 yards, 5 TDs and 2 1point converts. David also made 4 tackles and had 2 picks.
Division 5
- Mark Selvadurai caught 5 passes for 95 yards, 2 TDs and 1 2point convert. He also made 3 tackles which were all sacks.
Duds
Division 1
- Manuel Allard-Roy 6 catches for 19 yards is what got you on the list this week.
Division 2
- Mikelis Rogers 2 catches 28 yards and no defensive stats. After all this time of me hyping you up and telling players that you’re the next big thing you put up numbers like this, was I wrong in saying those things?
Division 3
- Avery Klimas has been balling out all season and then this 7-pick performance plus you asked not to be put as my Dud. Unless someone threw 8 it was going to be you this whole time.
Division 4
- Nicolas Poitevin what happened? Only 2 tackles and just 3 catches for 19 yards. Your defense is better than that.
Division 5
- Bear Hood as whole for running up the score and having a team that should be playing in a different division.
That’s who I have come up with for this week as can tell I’m not a fan of teams that dodge division and then run up scores. We are all here for fun if you feel stats are what matters, and you need to beat up on lower caliber teams to get them, then you’re in the wrong division. That last sentence is aimed at 2 teams. If you’re not sure what teams they are, I’m sure Jaf won’t mind tell you what they are.
