Predictions and Power Rankings Week 3

Predictions and Power Rankings Week 3

Predictions

At this point of the year I know its early, but favorites are starting to pop up. I don’t pick based on weather, I like you or your team and I look at the matchup and how I see it playing out. Some people find that I pick against them far too much and others think that I should pick them more. If you want me to pick you to win then go out and show me you deserve to get picked. If you can’t do that then that’s why I don’t pick you to win.

Division 1 (1-1 LW, 6-1 overall)

Gros Coqs vs Outlaws

I’m taking Outlaws for one reason only: Smuda. In the past they have always had a hard time dealing with him and I don’t see that changing this week.

Holy Trollers vs Henchmen NA

I don’t pick my games but it will be a close one.

Division 2 (5-1 LW, 13-4 Overall)

D#Nasty vs Centurions

Better defense and probably the best QB in the division. I want to say it won’t be a blowout, but it won’t surprise me if it is.

Old School vs Honor Game

This game was a hard pick since both teams have been up and down all season. I went with Honor Game in this one just because I feel they have the better roster from top to bottom.

Petits Phoques vs Les Boys 2.0

Petits Phoques have played together longer and have the better team. After watching Les Boys play last week there was no way I was taking them this week.

OG Panthers vs Bitter Boys

Roster wise, OG Panthers should win easily. Will they? {robably not. I also wonder who is throwing for them this week, will it be Charles or Louis?

Honor Game vs Joey’s Haters

Both teams are solid but I know that this will be the second game for Honor Game and it will be tough for them. So, I give the slight edge to Joey’s Lovers. If you guys allow Francis to score 3TDs in this one you’re not going to like my recap next week.

Deep Threats vs Nice TDs

I have to assume Kris will have a plan to stop Svetna and force someone else to beat them. I just can’t see who that person will be and that’s why Nice TDs keep on rolling this week.

Joey’s Haters vs Underdogs

This will be tough for them to win since it is there second game in a row for a few and a third or fourth game for guys who play on multiple teams. Joey’s Haters will win but it will be ugly.

Division 3 (3-1 LW, 8-2 Overall)

Panaches vs Ninja Turtles

Ninja Turtles have the better QB this season and they have more experience and players that are more explosive. I just can’t see this turn out any other way.

Raccoons vs Mustard Tigers

I pick Mustard Tigers only because Raccoons are weak at QB and I feel they will get at least 3 or 4 picks in this one. Brian needs to step up his game this week as he is going against a good defense. This will be a struggle for both teams to put points up.

Siriacha All Stars vs Iron Wolves

This is a rematch from last week, but will end in the same results of the Iron Wolves winning. At least now we will see if Josh can put up more than 20 points while surrendering less than 52. If I was a betting man my money would be on the under in both.

Division 4 (2-2 LW, 7-3 Overall)

Citadins vs Kill Bills

Rematch from last week and same winner just by more points. Yann won’t get away with 5 picks again and think they can hang with the big boys.

Airborne vs Les Beautes

Guillaume, I am picking you guys to win again this week, so I hope you show up. If you have to quit your job and rest up during the week you’re going to kill me and my predictions. I think if Guillaume is there it’s a different game and they pull it out, if he isn’t there then they will lose.

Airborne vs Flamboyant Flamingos

Flamboyant Flamingos have a lot of guys who are athletic which is great, but what they really need is someone who has played the game and can line them up in the right positions. Guillaume will be able to pick them apart if he takes his time and reads that they are playing man defense most of the time. I said last week that someone from Flamboyant Flamingos should reach out to me if they want a few pointers and the offer is still on the table.

Thunder Buddies vs Sofa King Good

Like most of the games this week this is another rematch. Last week Terry said he blew it with a few bad throws. Hopefully he learnt from his mistakes and it won’t happen again. I picked Thunder Buddies to win as they will have a better game plan then they did last week.

There you have it, my picks for the week. I seem to be doing pretty well this season which even surprises me a little. Guess that crystal ball from the antique store really can tell the future. Or maybe everyone is reading my article and agrees with my picks so they just make it happen. Good luck to everyone playing this week.

Power Rankings

As the season goes on, doing my rankings is getting easier and easier as teams are starting to show what they are made of. Here are my rankings this week.

Division 1

#1) Outlaws

#2) Holy Trollers

#3) Henchmen

Division 2

#1) Les Centurions

#2) Nice TDs

#3) Petit Phoques

Division 3

#1) Iron Wolves

#2) Ninja Turtles

#3) Mustard Tigers

Division 4

#1) Citadins

#2) Sofa King Good

#3) Airborne formally Team Maynard

If you have been following my rankings this season, you can see that the tops teams are pretty much the same since week 1. This week I bumped a few teams and made a few moves, but you all know where you stand. Just because you are winning doesn’t mean you deserve to be ranked. I expect a few messages this week and a few conversations on Saturday about my predictions or how I have your team ranked. Remember these are my rankings and this is how I see it.

Word from the Mouth: I May Be Wrong, You May Be Crazy! edition

Word from the Mouth: I May Be Wrong, You May Be Crazy! edition

This week was another tough one for a few of us that were out there all day in the sun and no shade. I’m not going to lie, I was one of them and just drinking water and staying hydrated doesn’t work. We should all be wearing hats and sunscreen. I personally hate both of them, but I might have to change my opinion (ed’s note: literally impossible, because then you would have been wrong). Yet, after dying on Saturday, my dumb ass when out to Brossard on Sunday and did it all over again. It is now Monday afternoon and I am still feeling the effects. We all need to take better care of ourselves. Let’s hope all the extremely hot days are behind us.

Week 3 Recap - Division 1

Henchmen vs Gros Coqs (34-32)

This was a much closer game than I thought it would be and at least it was entertaining for the first half and half of the second half. I saw this game and there were a lot of players who needed to have the rules explained and why calls were made. When two players rush simultaneously and no one declares who is the rusher then no one gets immunity and they need to avoid the center or there is a chance at pass interference (ed’s note: more likely illegal contact, but yes, the onus is on the defense to declare the rusher if more than one is lined up in the legal rush zone). That’s what happened on a pick 6 for the Henchmen. Vince had to slow down his release which resulted in PI even though Vince was not the intended target on the play (ed’s note: PI should only occur on the target of a pass and only after the pass is thrown, otherwise it is illegal contact, which is 5 yards and an automatic first down). Rushers should always declare as it makes it easier for everyone. The other play that stood out to me was a pick by Kris that got everyone riled up. On the play Kris jumps up and gets possession of the ball while Kris lands on the ground the ball end up in Bresse’s hands this was a judgement call made by the ref. On the play it was ruled a pick. After talking with the other ref it was ruled that Kris had possession of the ball and was ripped out of his hands there was no bobble and the play stood as a pick. After that Gros Coqs received two unsportsmanlike conduct penalties and Dom was thrown out of the game. That was at the half way point of the second half and it went downhill for them after that with little chance they would pull this one off. I still think if Dom hadn’t been thrown out then the Gros Coqs win the game.

Outlaws vs Red Raiders (32-26)

This game had a few plays that really changed it for Red Raiders. Let me start by mentioning that in order to beat the Outlaws you are going to need to score points, because you know they will. On Red Raiders first possession it was fourth down and they elect to go for it and Dave snaps the ball over Mike’s head and that is a loss of down and change of possession (ed’s note: it was fourth and goal). I know you’re new to snapping, Dave, but remember you need to get the QB the ball in order for your team to have a chance. This is the 3rd or 4th one of the year already. What I do when I snap is make sure ball gets back, then avoid the rusher then run my route, but part one is the most important. Another play that stood out to me was one of the last plays of the half. A bomb to Marvin in the middle of the end zone that was bobbled and fell incomplete, but on the play Shawn was right in front of him at the back of the end zone and it would have been an easier catch. That was fourth down and it led to an easy score for the Outlaws to go up 26-12 at half. All I can remember about Outlaws in this one was Steve leading long drives that were very efficient. Outlaws will win most if not all their games if they continue to play like this. They have very few weakness and they wear you out.

Top Performances of the Week

Did you bust your ass put up some crazy numbers? Have you done enough to make my list? Let’s take a look and find out. (ed’s note: are you not using both first and last names anymore? Too much work?)

Division 1

#1- Kris 23 for 32, 253 yards, 5 TDs, 4 1point converts, 1 pick thrown, 5 runs 13 yards, 1 tackle and a pick on defense.

#2- Smuda 9 catches for 75 yards, 2 TDs and 2 1point converts, to go with 3 tackles on defense.

#3- Steve 24 for 37, 242 yards, 5 TDs 2 1point converts, 2 runs   -1 yard

Division 2

#1- Nick 5 catches for 76 yards, 3 TDs, 2 tackles and 3 picks on defense

#2- Samuel 6 catches for 32 yards, 2 tackles and 5 picks on defense.

#3- Dave 14 for 26, 143 yards, 5 TDs, 2 1point converts, 5 runs 41 yards and 2 TDs to go with 1 tackle on defense.

Division 3

#1- Jon 25 for 35, 253 yards, 7 TDs, 4 1point converts, 4 runs 0 yards and no defensive stats. (ed’s note: is it really necessary to put the run yards and defensive part?)

#2- Alex 5 catches for 118 yards, 2 TDs, 1 2point convert, 3 tackles and 2 picks on defense.

#3- Alexandre L. 2 catches for 21 yards, 4 sacks on defense

Division 4

#1- Sam 16 for 26, 164 yards, 6 TDs, 1 pick thrown, 3 1point converts and 1 2point convert, 6 runs 34 yards, no stats on defense

#2- Jasmine (2 game) total 12 catches for 104 yards, 2 TDs, 2 tackles and 1 sack and a pick 6 on defense

#3- Thomas 5 catches for 53 yards and 2 TDs, No stats on defense

Not everyone could make my list this week and I had to make a few tough choices and I did, but it was really close on a few of them. Try harder next week and maybe you can crack my top 3.

Final Thoughts

Anyone that was out there this past week knows it was really freaking hot and humid and that is why we all need to drink plenty of fluids. It would be great if Jon took all the league fees and invested into a state of the art indoor facility where the temperature can be regulated and we are out of the sun. This would be fantastic for the few of us that are there all day. Jon you should looking to it, Stade Montreal was only a few million. I personally can’t wait for September when we normally start to cool off. Let’s all remember that this is a game and we are all out to have fun there is no need to kill your body on Saturdays when you need them for work and family the other six days of the week. Go out play hard, be safe and most importantly have fun.

Predictions and Power Rankings Week 2

Predictions and Power Rankings Week 2

Predictions

Slowly, but surely, I’m getting better at my picks. It would be a lot easier if you guys would just read my article and make what I’m writing come true. Since you won’t do that, I guess I’ll have to keep using my crystal ball and flipping a coin to guess my winners.

Division 1 (2-0 LW, 5-0 overall)

Henchmen vs Gros Coqs

I just feel that Henchmen will take a little time to get used to playing with a third QB in as many weeks. I also have to assume Gros Coqs will have a complete roster this week.

Outlaws vs Red Raiders

They are the better team and they can’t play two bad games in a row, can they? If things don’t start well for Red Raiders they will fall apart and start arguing amongst each other.

Trollers vs Platoon NA

I don’t pick my team’s games

Division 2 (5-1 LW, 8-3 Overall)

OG Panthers vs Centurions

This was an easy choice for me to make, even though it shouldn’t be. Centurions have a top defense and probably the best QB in the division.

Old School vs Les Boys 2.0

I don’t think Les Boys 2.0 are the better team I just feel that if they can play like they did last week they have a chance to win. Old School has more experience and will get it done this week.

Bitter Boys vs Nice TDs

They are faster and will be able to run all over Bitter Boys. Bitter Boys will have a hard time in this game, but can keep it close if they are on their game.

Joey’s Haters vs D#Nasty

They have the more experienced roster but will be missing a few players this week, so I will give D#Nasty their first win of the season.

Petits Phoques vs Deep Threat

Petits Phoques have the better roster and a better QB. This one will be difficult for Deep Threats and JC will need to play his ass off and not make any bone headed mistakes to have any chance. That isn’t going to happen and that’s why Petits Phoques will win.

Honor Game vs Underdogs

This is the game that Honor Game needs to get shit figured out and start rolling again. They shouldn’t even allow Underdogs to be close to them. The only chance that Underdogs has is if it all falls apart for Honor Game and they fight among each other.

Division 3 (4-0 LW, 6-1 Overall)

Panaches vs Ninja Turtles

I’m taking the Turtles in a half shell to walk all over Panaches in this one. The roster is too strong for it to be close and even if Ninja Turtles aren’t taking it seriously and just having fun at any point they can flip the switch and then it’s over.

Panaches vs Raccoons

I like Panaches and they have a good bunch of players. This choice was made because I Think that Amelie is a better QB than Phillipe and that will be the difference in this game.

Iron Wolves vs Sriracha All Star

This is a real bad mismatch. Iron Wolves are better at every position on the field. Josh might be the best player on the field, but he is playing out of position on offense and he can’t cover the entire field on defense.

Sriracha All Stars vs Mustard Tigers

Brian should be back this week and it looks like nicer weather, so I expect this one to get out of hand very fast and really quickly. Mustard Tigers have a solid roster from top to bottom and are hard to beat.

Division 4 (4-0 LW, 5-1 Overall)

Citadins vs Flamboyant Flamingos

I haven’t had the pleasure of seeing Citadins play yet this season, but from everything I’m hearing they are really good. That isn’t the only reason why I picked them, it’s because I have seen Flamboyant Flamingos play and can’t see how they will be able to play man and get it done.

Citadins vs Kill Bills

Citadins have a game before and will work out whatever little problems they have in the first game. When their second game rolls around they will be warmed up and will keep on rolling. Kill Bills has no chance in this one and should use it as practice and try some new things out.

Sofa King Good vs Thunder Buddies

Sam might have figured it out and played really well last week, but this week they are playing a team that knows what they are doing and will give them tons of problems. Terry will need to start playing better if they want to keep winning.

Les Beautes vs Team Maynard

I was going to give to one to Les Beautes, but I couldn’t do it. I went ahead and picked Team Maynard to win since I know Guillaume is a better QB than Brian. I might have picked Beautes to win if Simon was playing QB but he doesn’t want to that’s why they will lose this one.

Out of all the games last week I only got one game wrong I hope to be able to keep it up, but it’s still early and teams will get better as the season goes on.

Power Rankings

I had to think about who should get ranked where and it took me a while but I figured it out and here they are.

Division 1

#1) Outlaws

#2) Holy Trollers

#3) Gros Coqs

Division 2

#1) Les Centurions

#2) Nice TDs

#3) Joey’s Haters

Division 3

#1) Iron Wolves

#2) Mustard Tigers

#3) Ninja Turtles

Division 4

#1) Citadins

#2) Team Maynard

#3) Thunder Buddies

I only added one new team to my rankings this week. I did flip a couple of teams around but as you all know the season is still young and lots of things can change before the season ends. If you and your team want up here you need to prove to me that you deserve to be up here or you can try and bribe me, but I don’t come cheap (ed’s note: this is not true).

Word from the Mouth: No Spitting! edition

Word from the Mouth: No Spitting! edition

Another week down and a whole lot left to go before we crown a champion. This week we had some weather to deal with in some of the games and it showed with lots of sloppy play. If I remember correctly, I think it only rained one day all last summer during game day, so if that is it for the summer then great, but if we have to deal with it like that all season it’s going to suck for everyone.

This week there were a few things that seemed a little wonky, but we all have to remember no one is perfect except Jon since he can change the rules as needed to ensure that he is always right.

Week 2 Recap - Division 1

Trollers vs Outlaws (13-14)

This game started great for the Trollers with a pick six from Josh on the very first play of the game. Next drive for Outlaws, Steve threw another pick and the Trollers were pumped and it looked as if they were going to go up big early and run away with it. That is normally what would have happened, but Max was off his game in the first half missing throws either too high or not enough on it to make it to the receiver. Outlaws got on the board when Vince caught the ball in the back corner of the end zone when it looked as if he was standing on the line. I will say that the ref looked to be out of position, but fine it is what it is, it’s over so let’s move on. Later on the same thing happened, but this time for the Trollers and the receiver was ruled out. This game had to be the worst game that Steve has played in years, he threw four picks and two of them were in the end zone. Svetna did manage to pick Max off twice which is great, but both those picks were on last play of each half. Yes, they are still picks, but when your chucking it up the tallest guy on the field who can also jump should come down with it. Yes, the score looks close and the game was, but it was a horrible game by both teams. Can’t wait to see the rematch as it has to be a better game than this one was.

Henchmen vs Red Raiders (31-12)

Let me start by saying that the Henchmen’s new QB Jason wasn’t able to make it this week so Max from the Trollers filled in. I want to say that I’m personally against this and agree with the argument that Red Raiders brought up. Max shouldn’t have been allowed to throw since he is already throwing in division 1, but it’s not my call, just how I feel. Red Raiders should have said something at the start of the game and it could have been fixed right then and not waited until the game was over.  From what I heard from a few of the Henchmen was that Red Raiders dropped a bunch of balls and that it wasn’t even close to being a game and Max throwing didn’t make a difference they would have won anyways. All I can say to the Raiders is that next time you play them whoop their ass and show them that you are the better team and that it was just an off day.

Gros Coqs vs Platoon (50-0)

This was a close game at half at 7-0, which seemed great as maybe we will get a close game. Then I saw the score at the end and was like how does this happen. From what I understand is that Platoon really needs a QB to get them going. I also want to mention that half the Gros Coqs roster were missing so it could have been worse if they were all there.

Top Performances of the Week

Did you ball out, do you deserve to be up here or should you be added to clown of the week with Joey and Francis.

Division 1

#1- Etienne Moisan 17 for 28 147 yards 4 TDs 1 pick 2 1point convert 2 rushes 6 yards, 1 pick on defense

#2- Andrew Grant 5 catches 45 yards 1 TD, 1 tackle and 1 pick on defense

#3- Jon Svetna 2 catches 31 yards 1 TD and 2 picks

Division 2

#1- Oliver Bernier 4 catches 69 yards 1 TD, 4 tackles 3 picks and 1 pick 6

#2- Devin Daoust 11 catches 64 yards 1 TD and threw a 2 point convert, 1 tackle and 1 pick 6

#3- Xavier Collette 3 tackles and 2 pick 6s

Division 3

#1- Francis Vilaydeth 9 catches 93 yards 3 TDs 1 1point convert 1 run 17 yards, 1 tackle and 1 pick

#2- Alec Myles 5 catches 70 yards 1 TD 1 run 7 yards, 2 tackles on defense

#3- John Morris 4 catches 57 yards 1TD

Division 4

#1- Sam Laird 17 for 21 186 yards 5 TDs 2 1point converts 2 2point converts

#2- Carol-Ann Menard 23 for 43 173 yards 4 TDs 1pick, 1 tackle on defense

#3- Simon Biedermann 6 catches 68 yards 1 TD, 3 sacks

Those are my picks for this week if you didn’t make it you didn’t do something right or you got out performed try harder and maybe you will make it up here next week.

Final Thoughts

The weather was super crappy for half the day on Saturday, but this week we will be back to the heat. For all of you that don’t have to be there all day, great for you, but for the ones who do bring plenty of water and stay hydrated. I’m still a little annoyed that people can’t figure this out for themselves. I’m ok with being there all day, but I’m just going to die during my game at the end of the day. I hate playing late games, but will tough it out. I really can’t wait for this whole Corona thing to be over already and we can get back to normal.

I want to remind everyone of a few things that we need to remember. Players at any time (before, after, or during games) are not allowed to be between the three fields. We also need to remember that there is no spitting on the field that we are playing on and also our gloves. The city has also asked that there be no smoking inside the fence area. Please follow the rules, you don’t want to be the guy or girl that gets the league shut down by the city, do you? When you are out there this week playing, have fun and stay safe. I hope to see everyone Saturday.

Predictions and Power Rankings

Predictions and Power Rankings

Predictions

Week one is always the hardest especially with a bunch of new teams that I barely know or when teams haven’t put their rosters in yet. As the season goes on I should get better at this just like most of the teams should get better as well. Let me get in front of my crystal ball and tell you who the winners are this week.

Division 1 (3-0) Last week’s record

Trollers vs Outlaws NA

Just like last week I won’t pick my game.

Henchmen vs Red Raiders

I think they will rebound after last week plus the new addition will fit better with the type of players they have. Henchmen by less than a score.

Gros Coqs vs Platoon

Just like last week they are going to walk all over them. Gros Coqs by 3 scores at least.

Division 2 (3-2) Last week’s record

Les Centurions vs Old School

They are the better team from top to bottom, excluding Dahic. Centurions by more than one score.

D#Nasty vs Nice TDs

I’m taking Nice TDs, but they are in for a much tighter game than they were last week. Nice TDs by less than a score.

FA2 (ed’s note: Now Underdogs!) vs Bitter Boys

It might be Bitter Boys first game of the year, but they have always been a tough team to face that’s why I have them winning by at least two scores.

Les Boys 2.0 vs Honor Game

I think that after last week Honor Game will be ready to go right from the start and looking to get back on their winning ways. I have them wining in a close one by a few converts.

Deep Threats vs Joey’s Haters

I hated picking Joey’s Haters last week and I feel the same way this week. I just feel that Deep Threats will make too many bone head mistakes and lose this game by two scores.

OG Panther vs Petits Phoques

I went out on a limb with this pick. I just feel that with OG Panthers roster they should be able to complete in this one it will all come down to how Charles plays. This will be close, less than 6 points.

Division 3 (2-1) Last week’s record

Mustard Tiger vs Sriracha All Stars

This was an easy pick as they are the better team they have played together longer and, really, Josh isn’t a QB. Give me Mustard Tigers by 18 at least.

Iron Wolves vs Panaches

With both Will and Ian on the team plus Jon chewing the clock I can’t see how they lose this one (ed’s note: I’ll show you how!). Iron Wolves will win by at least 8.

Raccoons vs Ninja Turtles

They have the better team, more experience, and will be hungry to get in the win column after last week’s loss.

Iron Wolves vs Raccoons

I went with Iron Wolves for one reason and one reason only: QB play. I know what I’m getting with Jon, but as for Philippe it’s hit or miss. If I knew he could play every week like he did last week then I would take them, but I can’t, so give me Iron Wolves by 2 scores.

Division 4 (1-2) Last week’s record

Les Beautes vs Citadins

After last week how do I not pick them to win again? It’s not so much picking them to win as it is picking Beautes to lose. Give me Citadins by 3 scores just like last week.

Sofa King Good vs Flamboyant Flamingos

Sofa King Good should be good to go after playing together all winter and they should know each other and what works for them. This will be a close one, but Sofa King Good by less than score.

Flamboyant Flamingos vs Team Maynard

Flamboyant Flamingos having just played a game will be exhausted from the heat and it doesn’t help that Team Maynard is a solid team. Guillaume will lead his team to a 2 score victory this week.

Thunder Buddies vs Kill Bills

I just can’t see Thunder Buddies losing a second week in a row. Terry and Rob will figure it out and get it done. Thunder Buddies by 3 scores.

Power Rankings

Now you can all see what I think about your team and how I rank them. I know you might just assume that this is done by record, and while that has something to do with it, I also look at the roster and the team potential when I picking my teams.  Now for the rankings.

Division 1

#1) Outlaws

#2) Holy Trollers

#3) Red Raiders

Division 2

#1) Les Centurions

#2) Joey’s Haters

#3) Nice TDs

Division 3

#1) Iron Wolves

#2) Mustard Tigers

#3) Ninja Turtles

Division 4

#1) Citadins

#2) Thunder Buddies

#3) Team Maynard

That’s where everyone stands after week 1. I already know I’m going to hear Kris crying on Saturday about how they aren’t number 1 after beating a team by 64 points, or how I have a winless team at number 3 in division 3. This is how I see it, but don’t worry there is plenty of time for change. I might even bump Nice TDs to 4 just because it wasn’t cool running up the score.
