Word from the Mouth: Live from the ER! edition
This week’s article will be a little shorter than most. I started to write this in the ER on Monday then I realized that I didn’t have my charger with me and it was going to get finished at home. You’d think going to the ER on a Monday at noon wouldn’t be too busy, right? Well, was that ever wrong. More than ten hours later I finally left and was told it was nothing. I went in with chest pains and a hard time breathing and I walked out with chest pains and a hard time breathing, but it wasn’t as bad when I left. Normally with these symptoms you are considered to be a priority. With one doctor only and me being the peak physical specimen that I am, they made me wait. The health care system the way it works now completely sucks and it needs to change. The big issue right now is that you can’t go see your doctor or to a walk in clinic, it’s all done over the phone and they will straight up tell you just to go to ER if you need to see someone. The ER should have at least two or three doctors on all shifts at least during the day. I know I tell everyone to take it easy when they play and maybe I should listen to my own advice moving forward.
Week 8 Recap
Division 1
Ninja Turtles vs Centurions (33-24)
Early on this looked like it was going to be a very good game and it turned out to be. Centurions are still finding it a little difficult to play with the top teams in the division. Ninja Turtles played like they should and this was the first time that I have seen them play where they didn’t switch Wade and Tam at QB. At the beginning of the season I knew Wade was going to struggle, but each week he looks better and better. This might have been his best game this season. He didn’t force the ball deep and allowed his receivers to make plays after the catch. If Ninja Turtles are to contend for the title then Wade needs to keep playing like this and if he can eliminate the picks I can’t see who will stop them.
Moretti Crime Family vs Holy Trollers (27-33)
Who would have thought that Trollers would win this game? I don’t think anyone did. I will tell you how Trollers won and it is very simple, they didn’t have ten players show up and were somewhat organized. Crime Family had a chance at the end with last possession, but just couldn’t make anything happen. After the game I spoke to a few guys who said they don’t think Moretti Crime family is any good and that they only run a few plays. I agree with one part of that statement, but saying they aren’t a good team is crazy. I’d be willing to put money on it that if these two teams played ten games, Crime Family wins at least seven of them. Every team is allowed a little hiccup through the season and this is Moretti Crime Family’s forget it game. This is a game that Trollers will look back on at seasons end and say at least we won one game. (ed’s note: there is absolutely no bitterness here!)
Division 2
Outlaws vs Joey’s Haters (58-40)
Going into this game I was a little worried that we wouldn’t match up well on defense. Haters have more size and just as much speed. Outlaws were nearly unstoppable all game long on offense and they should have no worries there. Steve can keep up with the best of them. Max for the Haters needs to figure a way to get more players involved if they want a shot at beating some of the better teams. On defense both teams played poorly at best. Outlaws blew too many coverages which allowed for big plays and easy scores. Haters couldn’t tackle worth sprinkles except Francis who was making all his tackles, but that was so he would be out of place later in the game (ed’s note: what?). At points in the game it looked like Haters were just out there covering grass and Steve just threw to whoever hadn’t caught a pass yet. Julien had a big game catching passes on the sideline and walking in for score after score.
Petits Phoques vs RedZone (38-35)
This game started a few minutes late as RedZone were waiting on new jerseys and shorts. They do look nice; I will give them that. Petits Phoques are a lot nicer than the team name would indicate. I know most of them had a tournament to play in right after and wanted to get it going, but they waited. Opening drive RedZone had an easy drop or two and Mike let them know he didn’t want it to be one of those days. Normally in a Phoques game you have at least one or two big plays, but not this week. Dom took what the defense gave him and drove the field and scored on most drives. For RedZone I wasn’t too surprised to see Tristan and Dom as the top targets what was surprising was Fred not get many looks. If Mike uses all his guys this RedZone team could be a real threat. They are solid up and down the roster. but they need to find a third guy to help mike and the rest of the offense. With just over three minutes left, Petits Phoques have the ball and the lead if RedZone could stop them, they would have a chance to win it and look like a top dog. Their biggest play of the game came from the least likely source, Laurianne. She was snapping and all day was short and pretty much left alone, but this time she went up on a deeper hook caught it and ran down the field getting the first down and ending the game.
Division 3
Big Boys vs Deep Threats (0-45)
They might be called Big Boys, but Deep Threats made them look like infants. I will just say two things about this game and leave it at that. Nothing Big Boys tried worked. Three different QBs, same results. When you play Deep Threats you need to pay very close attention to Svetna. With Svetna being such a freak on the field he takes so much focus from the other teams that the rest of the team can just do their thing with minimal resistance. Harry was the guy this week for Deep Threats that carried the load.
Les Tannantes vs Chiefs (28-7)
Does this win put Tannantes back as one of the best teams in the division? That answer is no, it does not. It might even lower them in my opinion. You beat a team that is filled with athletes, but don’t know the game very well. Your QB threw 4 picks and you only won by 21 points. Yes, Tannantes won the game but, it felt like more of a win for Chiefs. I just said it a bunch of athletes, not very much knowledge of the game and they don’t have a QB. OK I might have been a little hard on Tannantes earlier, they did jump out to a 28 point lead then it seems as if they were just coasting after that. I want to see Chiefs get a QB and really see what they can do. They aren’t a bad a team, but they need leadership.
Division 4
Cereal Killers vs RawSauce (0-31)
It looks like there was too much sauce and the cereal became all soggy. After balling out last week, Killers looked to be caught and locked up as they couldn’t do fudge this week. I’m sure it had to do with missing players, but sometimes you have to deal with that. RawSauce is on a roll beating good team after good team. Everyone on RawSauce got balls this week and there was nothing that Cereal Killers could do to stop them. I don’t know how Antoine rushes like he does, every game he plays he makes such a huge impact. This week it was only 5 sacks, he has to be the best rusher in the division and it might not even be close.
Les Beautes vs Flamboyant Flamingos (7-19)
This was the first time in a long time that Beautes didn’t complain after the game about how they were under matched or that the team they played should be in a different division or how next season they are going in division 5. I was flabbergasted by how close this game was and how it turned out. Les Beautes are a solid team and having an injury sucks, but you should have been able to play this way all season. Flamingos have been blowing teams out left right and center and with Beautes missing their best defender to only lose like this is a win in my books. Yes, Flamingos are undefeated, but they have had an easy schedule so far, so this might be what we see from Flamingos when they play a decent team in the next few weeks and playoffs.
Division 5
Phoenix vs Los Pollitos (32-26)
This was a really hard game for me to play. It was my third game of the day I was exhausted and made a few really dumb decisions. Los Pollitos had to grab a sub while they waited for the rest of their team to show up. This game was fun to play in. but Los Pollitos need to make some adjustment at least on defense (ed’s note: please stop playing man defense, especially against a running machine of a QB like Kevin!). You can’t play man all the time, mix in some zone. Marie-Phillipe Cardinal played really well this week. She had 2 picks and ran 1 back for 6 and she also made a few plays on offense finding the end zone there as well. I hope that Los Pollitos win a game this season. They should but it will be tough.
Les Last Calls vs Mimosa Crew (26-25)
The first half of the game was all offense and the second half was all defense with no teams scoring in the second half except the game winner being a pick 6. I really wonder if Mimosa Crew would have won if Curren had been there throwing. Some of the players were around after their game and said it was a really tough game, but they pulled it off and got the win. I like the team Les Last Calls, but they have to find a way to get more than just Seb the ball if they want to win more games and have a chance to beat some of the better teams.
Top Performance of the Week
Normally making these picks is hard for me, but this week it wasn’t. I’d like to welcome the following players into the NO MARVIN CLUB. In case you aren’t sure what that means, it means you did something Marvin can’t and that is win player of the week in my books.
Division 1
Offense
I’m taking a page from the book of Jon and giving the award to a player that did everything he could to secure his team’s first win of the season this week. Max Sadori plays center for the Trollers and this week had 10 catches for 76 yards and 3 TDs.
Defense
I had to pick between two different rushers this week and since I gave the offensive player to a Troller. I went and gave the defensive player to an Outlaws player. Terry Babalis played two games and ended up with 5 sacks for the day.
Division 2
Offense
I looked long and hard over all the stats and I don’t know why I wasted so much time and didn’t just give it to Louis-Mathieu Dufour right away. I think this is the most yards in one game this season so far. Louis had 11 catches for 189 yards and 3 TDs. I can’t see anyone get close to that again this season.
Defense
When going over the stats I wasn’t sure I was going to find anyone worthy this week, but then I looked at the KOLB game and poof there you have it. This week Jeremi Riendeau-Demers busted his ass and that’s why I picked him. Jeremi had 2 tackles, 2 picks, 1 pick 6 and a pick 2 as well. He almost single handedly ruined Honor Games shot at a perfect season.
Division 3
Offense
I hate pick players from blow outs at least on the defensive side of the ball, but on offense I don’t mind especially if it’s a player who doesn’t get talked about much. This week I went ahead and gave the Harry Moroz. Harry had 5 catches for 56 yard 3 TDs and 2 1point converts.
Defense
I almost didn’t give the award this week to this player for getting caught inside the red zone on an intercepted convert. Jason Edwards should be lucky he didn’t make me run all that way for nothing. No really, Jason is a solid player and more than made up for it with the rest of his stats. Jason made 4 tackles, had 2 picks and took 1 back for 6 points.
Division 4
Offense
Everyone that plays Titans say that Benjamin McMahon is too good to be playing QB in this division. It might be true, but this is the division he is in and he is tearing it up. Ben went 14 of 24 for 106 yards, 4 TDs 3 1point converts and ran 8 times for 61 yards and 1 TD. Those are some pretty good numbers.
Defense
I think I may have given this player the award last week, but who is there to stop from giving it to him again this week. Antoine Theroux is ridiculous. Last week he had 3 sacks and this week he was like I can do better than 3 and managed to get 5 sacks this week. I can’t see how Antoine doesn’t win rusher of the year I know he has my vote.
Division 5
Offense
I had two players to pick from here and it was hard. Do I go with the RB playing QB or the WR that gets most of his team’s passes? It was hard, but I end up going with the WR from Les Last Calls Sebastien Lucas Alzate. This isn’t the first time I’ve had him up here and if he keeps playing like this it won’t be the last time either. Sebastien brought in 7 passes for 97 yards, 3 TDs and 1 1point convert.
Defense
I think this will be the first time I give my weekly award for player of the week to a player on a team that lost. This week Marie-Phillipe Cardinal is that player. She kept her team in the game. Marie had 3 tackles, 1 sack, 2 picks and took 1 back for 6 points. If it wasn’t for Marie the game might not have been so close. She keeps playing like this and a win won’t be far away.
That is it for my top performances this week. With only 4 weeks left in the season for most time is running out if you want to see you name up here. Go out, bust your ass, and show me and everyone in the league that you are the top dog and won’t be held back.
