Word from the Mouth: The Heat's Back On! edition

Word from the Mouth: The Heat's Back On! edition

What a hot one we had this weekend. After being out all-day Saturday and then going to Brossard Sunday, I’m completely wiped out and glad I called in on Monday. Heat stroke is no joke; therefore, you need to wear sunscreen, a hat, drink plenty of fluids, and even when you do that it still hits hard sometimes. When your fat, out of shape and think you know better like me and push your body, after a while it catches up to you.

Right now, this upcoming weekend looks like 26, so its not so bad and anyone playing at Arthur Therrien might get some good news since its supposed to rain on Friday and maybe that will keep all the dust away.

Last week I said Miami was making to the NBA Finals with a 3-0 lead now that pick doesn’t seem so sure, with tonight being game 7 winner takes all. Willie, what’s wrong with your team? This week recaps are going to be short since its still all a blur to me, but here we are with them.

Weekly Recap

Division 1

Gros Coqs vs Iron Wolves (44-34)

In this game Demario was able to avoid whoever was rushing him with ease and able to find open players. My favorite play was a TD to Laurent where Mario threw it up high where Laurent raised his hands and caught it between 2 or 3 defenders. Boris had a good game getting 3 TDs on 4 catches. Late in the game Alexis picked off a 2-point convert and took it back for 2 points and sealed the game up by giving Gros Coqs a 10-point lead.

Division 2

Thunder Buddies vs Marvels (32-26)

Marvels only had 4 players with 2 subs and none of them being a QB, so Alex stepped up. Thunder Buddies looked off all game taking it easy on defense, even Steve looked off his game. Late in the game Thunder Buddies were driving looking to go up 2 scores, but Connor who was subbing picked off a pass from Steve ran it all the way back to tie it up at 26. Steve being clutch kept his cool and drove the length of the field in 3 plays connecting with Josh for a 10-yard TD. This left a few plays for Marvels who got he ball close, but on the last play instead of throwing it and giving his team a chance Alex was sacked by Remi and the game ended. Turned out closer than anyone expected.

Division 3

Phoenix vs Red Cats (22-32)

This game could have easily been a forfeit if Nick hadn’t mentioned to Avery that getting a sub means he can’t play defense. There were a few plays that really changed the game. The first pick thrown by me should have led to a 2 score lead, but Cory was able to bail me out by getting a pick on the goal line. We might have tied the game up if Victor hadn’t baited me by allowing Brian a few steps behind him then made it up while the ball was in the air. The funny thing about that pick was Phoenix got points because of it (ed’s note: ?). The play that sealed the game for Red Cats came on the last play of the half with Avery throwing it up between Rob and Nick and somehow neither got a hand on it and it fell right into Victors waiting arms. In the second half Red Cats kept that 2-score lead. Late in the game Phoenix scored and needed the 2-point convert to still have a chance even if very slim, but couldn’t get it.

Average Joes vs Iron Wolves (57-18)

What do you say about a game that was completely one sided.  Joes looked very good once Jason banged the rust off. Iron Wolves were in the game early until Jon needed to make some harder throws and his arm went out. After that it was Jason to McSweeny on offense and Flood picking off 3 passes on defense that lead the way for an easy win.

Average Joes vs Mustard Tigers (34-26)

After scoring 57 earlier in the day Jason and the offense cooled off a bit and only managed 34 points. This game started with Brian throwing a pick on the second play of the game to Simon, which made it easy for Joes to score quickly and get the lead. They traded scores and with Mustard Tigers having the ball with little time in the half were looking to score and tie the game until Oliver step in front of a pass and picked it off. Joes scored and had a 2 score lead at halftime. Joes started with the ball in the second half and scored to make it 34-13 and that was all they needed.

Division 4

Cyclones vs Drama Club (14-13)

Is there a QB controversy in Cyclones locker room. Marco wasn’t there this week so Nick went QB. All I know is that Simon and Drama Club wanted a review of the final play that would have given them a chance to win. Nick threw an out to Barbara and Nico stepped down in front of the pass and picked it off, except there was a flag on the play for illegal contact penalty giving Cyclones a first down and the win.

Division 5

Big Booties vs Kiss My Pass (18-6)

Lesniak needs to do a better job with the ball going 9 of 26 and not getting Andre the ball once is just a shame. I know someone is going to play the That’s my QB and to that person tell him to play better. Josh didn’t play half bad this week as he was able to avoid the rush like we all know he can, but it was his decision making that impressed me. He didn’t just look to go deep. Mugano is a good player but once he gets a full understanding of the game will become a very dangerous weapon. Mugano had 5 catches for 55 yards and 2 TDs. There wasn’t much scoring in this game, but both teams scored to end the halves, Big Booties in the first and Kiss My Pass in the second. Lesniak and Jordana were everywhere making tackles on defense for KMP, but they need more than just tackles in this one as the offense was struggling to get anything going so an extra possession or two would have helped.

That is all I have for this week hope you enjoyed and stay tuned for Terry and Willie on Wednesday with there podcast and if you play in Brossard or are looking for more MFL news, Matt has the Brossard podcast on Wednesday or Thursday.

Studs & Duds

Im running late with getting my article into Jon, so let’s get to it. If you balled out maybe you made the list and if you screwed up or blew chunks you might see your name as well.

Studs

Division 1

- Ashton Thibault made 9 catches for 162 yards and 3 TDs, then on defense he made 1 tackle and had 1 pick.

Division 2

- Patrick St-Martin had 6 catches for 67 yards and 2 TDs. Then made 10 tackles, 2 picks and 1 returned for a TD.

Division 3

- Ludovic Goulet threw 8 TDs while going 25 of 38 for 270 yards while also converting 3 1point converts.

Division 4

-  Will Bradford in 2 games was all over the place. He was QB and went 15 of 26 for 171 yards, 3 TDs, 1 2point convert and threw 2 picks. Running he was 4 attempts for 12 yards. As receiver had 11 catches for 124 yards, 3 TDs and 1 1point convert. Finally on defense he made 8 tackles and had 1 pick.

Division 5

- Gordon Billings made 5 catches for 71 yards, 3 TDs and 1 2point convert. On defense 1 tackle and 2 picks.

Duds

Division 1

- Shawn Haney, you need to step up. 1 catch for 9 yards just isn’t getting it done.

Division 2

- Everyone on Marvels that didn’t show up, you might have won if you did.

Division 3

- Victor Okoro the pick was great, but running into the endzone from about 10 yards out and giving up the safety, come on, where’s the field vision?

Division 4

- Everyone playing offense on Drama Club not named Nico, Ben and Roxanne, you got to help Simon out and catch a few balls.

Division 5

- Jeremy Rooney for throwing 5 picks and getting shut out.

There are your winners and losers for week 3. Just know no one is safe. You screw up and I hear about it I’m calling you out.

Predictions and Power Rankings Week 2

Predictions and Power Rankings Week 2

Predictions

I can tell you that last week wasn’t a good week for anyone. The top person from last week was Matt going 13 of 21, guess his son wanted to eat this week. I went 12 of 21 and that brings me to 25-17 on the season, man is that ever sneakers and still leaves me in last place after 2 weeks. Looks like I need to get a new crystal ball as the old one isn’t working anymore. I figured I could use Marvin’s head until mine comes in. I can already see the steam coming out of his ears now.

It’s time for my picks and remember they are in bold.

Division 1

Gros Coqs vs Iron Wolves

I just don’t have confidence that Demario is going to be there as he has missed a bunch of games in the past.

Trollers vs Centurions

I think Max will struggle his first week back and his first game of the season.

Division 2

Nice TDs vs Pocket Rockets

I feel they have the better roster.

Spritz Gang vs Idaho Udapimp

They have a better roster from top to bottom.

Marvels vs Thunder Buddies

Steve being angry about last week will go out and light the scoreboard up.

Division 3

RawSauce vs Bines

Both teams have huge roster, but the middle of Bines roster is better, and that is why they win this game.

Average Joes vs Iron Wolves

Even missing a few players Average Joes are still loaded, plus how long does Jon’s arm last?

Pocket Rockets vs Douilles Molasses

No one on Douilles Molasses will be able to stop Willie or Phil.

Phoenix vs Red Cats NA

I don’t pick my teams games.

Average Joes vs Mustard Tigers

Better overall team.

Division 4

Cyclones vs Drama Club

I have way more confidence with Simon at QB, but I can’t see who will be able to keep up with Alex on their defense and that’s why I choose Cyclones.

Udaho Idapimp vs RawSauce

This team is loaded and shouldn’t have much of an issue in this one.

Bouchers vs Super Friends

I think that after last weeks big win they keep on rolling this week.

Sooners 45 vs Villains

Diego will have his way this week and run like the wind.

Black Diamonds vs Bines Low Fat

Bines Low Fat will have the best player on the field and Black Diamonds will have a hard time to slow him down.

Villains vs Super Friends

I think they are the more complete team.

Legendaries vs Sour Peeps

If I remember correctly Ben won’t be there for Legendaries plus Sour Peeps are a very good team.

Los Pollitos vs Titans

Titans might not be a great team overall, but they are the better team and don’t have holes like Los Politos do.

Jungle Squad vs Chili Hotdogs

They have more experience and better athletes.

My Ball Zach Ertz vs Weekend Warriors

They will have the 2 best players on the field and it not even close.

Mimosa Crew vs Tropic Thunder

I have played both teams in the past and I can tell you that Tropic Thunder is the better team.

Kiss My Pass vs Big Botties

Max is back and I expect Josh to feed him the ball and no one will be able to stop that connection.

There you have it my picks for this week.

Power Rankings

After last week a few changes will be made to my list, just like I’m sure after this week more changes will be done. Lets dive right in and see who made it and where they are ranked.

Division 1

1- Gros Coqs

2- Centurions

3- Outlaws

Division 2

1- Pocket Rockets

2- Thunder Buddies

3- Nice TDs

Division 3

1- Average Joes

2- Pocket Rockets

3- Red Cats

Division 4

1- Udaho Idapimp

2- Bines

3- Sooners 45

Division 5

1- Bear Hood

2- Sour Peeps

3- Tropic Thunder

There are a few teams that I am keeping an eye on and if they keep playing like they are, they will be on my list in no time. You never know what might happen each week all you can do is show up and play your game.

Final Thoughts

OTA have started in the NFL and that means just a few more weeks until meaningless preseason games start. I hate the preseason, it’s a waste of time and no big names even play in those games.

Is the debate finally over between MJ and Lebron? I don’t remember MJ getting swept in the playoffs. Is the NBA in trouble with what looks to be Denver and Miami in the finals? Will the casual fan tune in, probably not and especially with the finals starting on June 1st that will be almost a week without games.

This week is the first week of MFL for the kids, so everyone needs to be on their best behavior except me since I always am. I might swear like a sailor, but imagine the things I would say if I wasn’t holding back. There would be fist fights every week and the weak would be in tears and not able to finish their games because their feelings would be hurt (ed’s note: Jeez…). Just remember with a snap of my fingers or a word out of my mouth I could have you on the floor crying, but I’m too much of a nice guy to do that.

Before I let you all go, please remember that we are playing a game and it is for fun, so go have some and don’t take the game to seriously.

Word from the Mouth: Praying for Rain! edition

Word from the Mouth: Praying for Rain! edition

Oh my, were we ever lucky this weekend. No rain like it was calling for all week. I can tell you from playing for years that when it rains, it sucks. But actually, working all weekend and having to stand all day, some rain would have been nice, not because of the heat, but so the ground was softer.

This week we were back at Arthur Therrien, and they did no work on fixing it up and it was a dust field on one end. Parking sucks at Therrien, so to help you out if you can’t find parking just go and park behind the school and walk past the baseball field. That’s all I got for you so let’s move on to my recap.

Division 1

There was 1 game, and I didn’t see it, but Terry was there so you’ll get a recap on the Podcast.

Division 2

Thunder Buddies vs Spritz Gang (37-0)

This one has to be a kick in the pants for Thunder Buddies. Thunder Buddies were up by 3 scores late in the game and their sub Manuel left to get ready for his next game which was right after. This meant Steve would come on and play defense. It had no outcome on the game, but Mario decided to talk to Jon about enforcing the sub rule stating the QB isn’t allowed to play defense and this meant the game was a forfeit. This should show all that we don’t play favorites.

Idaho Udapimp vs Master Chiefs (54-53)

This game was fun to watch, but also shows you that defense doesn’t exists in flag football. Early in the second half Master Chiefs started a drive looking to take control of the game and get a 2 score lead. Marvin had other plans as he stepped in front of an Owie pass and returned it for a TD and tied the game. Rest of the game was back and forth with non-stop big plays. With a minute left Owie scored on a pass to Jeremy and then again on a 2 point convert giving them a 7 point lead. Brady being who he is stayed calm and was able to score on the last play of the game. Instead of going for 1 and the tie, he went for 2. On the convert attempt Marvin ran a slant and caught the ball 2 or 3 yards short of the goal line but was able to walk in without a defender around.

Division 3

Douilles Molasses vs RawSauce (19-20)

This wasn’t a very exciting game to watch but there were a few things that stood out to me. RawSauce needs to find a way to get both Yvan and Gabriel involved on offense as having 7 catches for 78 yards and 1 TD between them isn’t great. Also what is RawSauce doing not having Antoine rushing? For Douilles Molasses it seems like Felix is having a hard time making quick and easy throws and is stuck running around and hoping something happens. Amilie Killed it this week with 2 TDs and a pick that she was close to returning for a TD. Both teams were missing lots of players so maybe that had something to do with it.

Division 4

Sooners 45 vs Cyclones (34-13)

You should never win a game when your starting QB completes 6 passes, but he also ran for 60 yards. Cyclones had no way of stopping Diego. They moved Alex to rush but this left them exposed to Sydney getting 2 TDs on 3 catches. There were a few trick plays from Sooners 45, but what won them the game was their defense. They managed to pick Marco off 5 times. Cyclones struggled all day moving the ball. Marco was throwing late, letting the ball hang up and looked for the deep ball more than he should have. Sooners 45 clobbered them but it wasn’t super impressive.

Iron Wolves vs Les Bouchers (19-39)

This was the game that surprised me the most this weekend. I figured that with Jon and Josh they would figure out how to eliminate the deep ball, guess not. The play that stood out most to me and probably broke the camel’s back was the last play of the first half where Lukas avoids the rush, looks left, comes back right, and throws it right where Xavier was able to get behind the defense and come up with the catch. You can’t allow a receiver to get behind you on the last play of a half when you know a throw to the endzone is coming. Second half both teams struggled to get much going.

Division 5

Tropic Thunder vs Phoenix (40-20)

Tropic Thunder completely smoked Phoenix this weekend. It was close for a while, but at the end of the day winning by 1 or 20 in this case is still a win. Eduardo played a great game throwing 6 TDs all while picking on the defensive weak spots. Phoenix wasn’t able to adjust and couldn’t make any stops. Late in the game Phoenix was trying to get back into the game, but there were too many mental errors in route running which led to turnovers on downs. Both teams were missing players so when this rematch happens in the playoffs it might be a different outcome.

That is all for this weeks recaps.

Studs & Duds

Man, what a week it was. Lots of close game and lots of players balling out, and how can we forget those players that didn’t even show up to play. Here are this weeks winners and losers.

Studs

Division 1

- Louis Archambault for his 16 catches, 102 yards 1 TD, 1 1point convert, 1 2point convert and 6 tackles on defense.

Division 2

- Christian Pedroza made 9 catches for 80 yards, 2 TDs and made 1 tackle on defense.

Division 3

- Avery Klimas was 16 of 25 for 175 yards and 5 TDs. On the ground Avery had 50 yards and 1 TD on 9 carries. On defense he didn’t do much just 2 tackles.

Division 4

- Lukas Drouin was 19 of 312 for 231 yards, 6 TDs and 3 1point converts.

Division 5

- Eduardo Fuentes Contreras went 20 of 30 for 222 yards, 6 TDs and 2 2point converts. He also ran 4 times for 8 yards and made 1 tackle on defense.

Duds

Division 1

- Whoever it was calling the defense for Outlaws (Kevin Smuda) allowing a center to get 16 catches.

Division 2

- Master Chiefs defensive play caller (Owie) for that 3 deep call on the convert leaving the goal line free at the end of game.

Division 3

- Simon Blais for throwing that last TD with little over a minute left in the game being up 39 points.

Division 4

- Jon Evans and Josh Levine for not putting a defensive game plan together to stop the deep ball, giving up 39 points and only make a combined 4 tackles. (ed’s note: I don’t do defense!)

Division 5

- Kevin Kousaie for not make in game adjustments on defense to force a stop or two and not give up 40 points.

As you can see this week there was a trend, defensive play callers need to step up and get the job done. Can’t win games if you can’t make stops on defense. The Studs balled out this week and the Duds were really that bad and you can see I don’t play favorites since I included myself. Better luck next week to everyone who didnt make my list.

Predictions and Power Rankings Week 1

Predictions and Power Rankings Week 1

Predictions

The picks I made last week weren’t very good and because I only got 13 out of 21 right, I now sit in last place. Somehow even Matt’s 2-year-old knows more than me. It’s a good thing I’m a week 2 type of guy (ed’s note: isn’t that what you said Willie would say?). I’ll pick it up this week and get back into the race and I have 11 more weeks to go until I’m crowned the winner.

Here are this week’s picks and like always they are in bold.

Division 1

Outlaws vs Centurions

Its week 2 and we already have a rematch. I don’t see anything different happening in this game except Steve having Marvin to throw to.

Division 2

Nice TDs vs Udaho Idapimp

I might be looked at weird after this statement (ed’s note: you’re already looked at weird), but I think Nice TDs might have the better roster, but that is on paper and the difference in this game will be chemistry which Idaho has.

Pocket Rockets vs Jagerbomb

The height of Phil on offense and with Khalil rushing will cause problems for Jagerbomb all game long. It will come down to which team starts off quickly since both struggled at times last week.

Thunder Buddies vs Spritz Gang

Speed, Athleticism and then you add Steve on top of that.

Marvels vs Jagerbomb

Who will show up for Marvels and who will be in at QB and for that reason of not knowing I’ll take Jagerbomb.

Idaho Udapimp vs Master Chiefs

This is a rematch from the winter and Idaho won that one, they win this one as well but by a bigger margin.

Division 3

Pocket Rockets vs RawSauce

Pocket Rockets are a good team and have practiced for weeks and are all on the same page I can’t say that about RawSauce who lost last week in OT because they dropped too many balls.

Villains vs Double Dippers

Last week Villains struggled, and this week will be the same Double Dippers are a very good team and shouldn’t have much of an issue this week.

Red Cats vs Bines

I think Bines figures a way to keep Avery from running and this leads to a turnover or two.

Division 4

Bouchers vs Iron Wolves

Iron Wolves will take the deep ball away and this will end up leading to a few bobbled passes and picks.

RawSauce vs Black Diamonds

It looks like RawSauce is missing half their roster this week and after the way last week went for them, they need all hands-on deck which isn’t happening this week.

Airborne vs Udaho Idapimp

They have the stronger roster and the better QB as of right now.

Cyclones vs Sooners 45

The big 3 from Cyclones should take care of Sooners 45 top players and it will come down to how Kayla and Steve perform.

Cyclones vs Bines Low Fat

They have too many weapons for Cyclones to handle.

Division 5

Bear Hood vs Kiss My Pass

They are just too strong.

Los Pollitos vs My Ball Zach Ertz

I think Samuel will take over this game and no one on My Ball Zach Ertz will be able to keep up or stop him.

Improbables vs Sour Peeps

They are a very good team with size, speed, a good QB and a very good rusher in Paul.

Weekend Warriors vs Jungle Squad

No one on Jungle Squad will be able to stop Jeremy and Elijah, they are too good and have way more experience.

Phoenix vs Tropic Thunder NA

I don’t pick my teams games.

Chili Dogs vs Titans

They have more experience and with Chili Dogs missing all sorts of players who know who they will get to sub.

Mimosa Crew vs My Ball Zach Ertz

Curren is a better passer and that is what it will take to win in this game.

There you have it the start of my comeback. Good luck to all.

Power Rankings

Looks like some of my rankings were wrong and a bunch of teams proved me wrong. That was before the season started and now having seen a few of the teams plays and looking at the stats maybe this week the rankings will be better.

Division 1

1- Gros Coqs

2- Outlaws

3- Trollers

Division 2

1- Idaho Udapimp

2- Thunder Buddies

3- Jagerbomb

Division 3

1- Average Joes

2- Pocket Rockets

3- Bines

Division 4

1- Udaho Idapimp

2- Iron Wolves

3- Sooners 45

Division 5

1- Bear Hood

2- Sour Peeps

3- Mimosa Crew

Those are the rankings heading into week 2. Will they stay this way? Probably not, but you never know.

Final Thoughts

We are one week closer to having MFL kids playing at Le Ber and that means no more swearing or foul language. We as a league are being serious about this. This means for players and refs. We have to set an example for the kids and parents will be around. Jon gave out at least 1 warning last week for this and of course I got it (ed’s note: I gave 3 warnings!).

I really don’t have anything to say this week, so with that just remember we are playing a game and its for fun, so go have some and don’t kill anyone.

See you all Saturday either at Le Ber or at Arthur Therrien. Remember to check where you are playing and don’t go to wrong field.

Word from the Mouth: I'm Running You Down If You're Running It Up! edition

Word from the Mouth: I'm Running You Down If You're Running It Up! edition

First week of the season is in the bags and only 11 more to go until playoffs. I want to start by saying sorry to whoever had to play on that wonderful field #5 this past weekend. I know, and so does everyone who has every played on it before, that its not the best. Okay, who am I kidding? Playing in the streets full of potholes would have been smoother than that.

Just so we are all clear, the fields were set up like that because we couldn’t get Arthur Therrien until this weekend, since the city wouldn’t give us the park. This week we are back to 2 locations so please check your schedule to know which park you are at.

With this being week 1 we had a bunch of close games and even a few blowouts. I’m not surprised by how some games went, but I was a little shocked at a few. There might even be a few changes made because of it. Now that most teams have a game played and banged off the rust, I can’t wait to see what happens the rest of the season.

Weekly Recap

Division 1

Gros Coqs vs Trollers (41-26)

A few things stuck out to me in this game. First let me mention that Gros Coqs got new jerseys and they are Cream and not white as I was told on multiple occasions. For the first time since the league was put together back in 2014 there is no original member of the Trollers on the roster. Now to what happened in the game. The game was close and both teams were going back and forth on the scoreboard and with the talking. Half way through the second half Gros Coqs scored and were up 10 when Trollers started to drive down and try to keep it close, until Charles Rousseau-Bélanger picked off a pass from Vinny and ran it back for 6. At this point the game was out of reach but both teams traded scores once more and the game ended with Gros Coqs winning by 15.

Division 2

Spritz Gang vs Jagerbomb (20-26)

This game was lots of fun to be able to watch. Mario was cheerful and wearing some flashy jewelry, JS looked fresh with zip on the ball, plus they added 2 new players Laurent and Dagher both who will help. Then there is Jagerbomb who came with the same team as last season and are solid from top to bottom. This game started out great for Spritz Gang they went up 12 to start the game with Pat getting both TDs. Then Simon woke up and got things going. Late in the first half after a TD by Jagerbomb JS made his worst throw of the game with a pass over the middle right into the hand of Loic who ran it in for 6 and that was what turned the game in favor of Jagerbomb. Very late in the game Spritz Gang scored and had 2 timeouts left which meant jagerbomb couldn’t end the game. They needed a first down to end it, but ended up punting giving Spritz Gang 1 shot at scoring, but the ball fell short and the game was over.

Division 3

Phoenix vs Bines (24-26)

This game had a few plays that made huge impacts in the game. Phoenix was able to march up and down early in the game and score. Bines on the other hand had a hard time because of the rush from Khalil at least to start the game. Late in the first half Bines had just scored and left 45 seconds on the clock I was thinking to just end the half, but figured see what happens on first down. We gained some yards so I figured we can get some more yards before taking a shot at the end zone. That was a mistake because on the very next play Bines picked the ball off and were in good position to score to take the lead before half. They managed to score and get their second convert to take a lead at half. Phoenix was down at half, but were getting the ball to start the second half. Nothing to worry about except on fourth and 2 the ball went through one receiver’s hands and into the chest of another and the ball fell incomplete giving great field position back to Bines. At this point Bines looked in control of the game and could have started to run away with it, except Nick picked off the ball in the endzone keeping it a 1 score game. Late in the game Phoenix was down 8 with 3 minutes left and need to score and get a 2-point convert. Phoenix scored quickly because of a big play down the sideline to Khalil followed by a quick pass to Riley for the TD. Convert failed and that meant defense needed a stop. They managed to get it and left time to drive down and try to win the game. After a few plays and use of timeouts Phoenix was left with 1 play the ball was thrown to the endzone where Bines were able to knock it away and prevent the score.

Division 4

Super Friends vs Raw Sauce (31-0)

Wow this game was never close and let me tell you why. Oliver started the game by completing his first 2 passes, one short to Alex N who took it the distance and his second was a deep bomb to Alex M for another TD. After that Oliver only took 1 more deep shot and that was in the second half and once again went to Alex M for his second score of the game. For RawSauce, Gabriel really struggled since this was his first time playing QB, his first 3 drives all resulted in picks. You could tell he was just trying to get the ball out of his hands as quickly as he could. Even when he did make the rusher miss and had time, he would get rid of the ball. This is what you expect from a new QB, but it also would have helped him if his team didn’t drop easy passes. The one bright spot for RawSauce was Jamilie Provencher, she caught every pass thrown her way, even when it was over her head she went up and pulled it down. Right now, RawSauce doesn’t look like a good team, but let’s give them a few weeks before we start nailing the coffin shut on them.

Division 5

Bear Hood vs Titans (39-13)

This game was one-sided as Simon had Bear Hood rolling from the start of the game and built up a 25-0 lead at half time. This should have been enough to coast until the final whistle for Bear Hood, but after giving up a score to open the second half they just continued to pour it on. Simon did complete passes to everyone on the team, but the one pass that really wasn’t cool was when he is taking deep shots at the end of a game being up 26 points. I get you want to get everyone the ball, but just go short. There were two bright point for Titans, Austin had a nice deep catch and run for a score and somehow Robert was looking like RG3 running around and even scored once.

Phoenix vs My Ball Zach Ertz (19-12)

Based on what the rosters looked like, I’m sure people were expecting it to be more lopsided than it was. I will say I was very surprised by how quick most of the players are on My Ball Zach Ertz are. Their rusher was on me all day long and never gave me a chance to run. Speaking of running, boy can Luca ever move. I will tell you that once Luca becomes a better passer this team will surprise a few teams. They do need to work on their play calling and their defensive alignment but that will come in time. Late in the game with a 13-12 lead Phoenix was driving and looking to seal the game and on second down a pass was headed towards James and when it left my hands, I thought it was too high and far out in front of him, but he turned on the jets, extended his arms and managed to pull it in with his fingertips for the score. This gave Phoenix a 19-12 lead. Luca now had 6:30 left to drive down score and get the convert for the tie or win. They moved the ball all the way inside the red zone where now Luca would have to use his arm to win the game and with an incomplete pass on fourth down Phoenix got the ball back and ended the game.

Studs & Duds

Man, its only been 1 week and it seems that a lot of you really stepped up your game just so you can make my list. Now let’s go over the rules. I’m only picking 1 payer per division, and it must be the highest division you play in at least to win Stud, you can win Dud for playing in a lower division. You are also able to make it in different divisions if you play a different position, but this is basically if you play QB in one division and receiver in another. You don’t have to win your game, but it does help especially if 2 players are close. Now let’s see who won and lost this week.

Studs

Division 1

- Jonathan Svetna grabbed 6 passes for 129 yards, 2 TDs and on defense made 5 tackles and had a pick.

Division 2

- Quentin Leduc made 5 catches for 76 yards and 2 TDs.

Division 3

- Thomas Znoj made 6 catches for 75 yards and 3 TDs.

Division 4

- Jason McAleer went 17 of 21 for 215 yards, 6 TDs, 3 1point converts, 1 2point convert, ran the ball 3 times for 7 yards and threw 1 pick.

Division 5

- Christopher Jovani Made 4 catches for 72 yards, 2 TDs. He also made 2 tackles, had 3 picks and ran 1 back for 6 points.

There you have it my week 1 Studs. Now it time to see my Duds list where no one wants to see their name, unless you’re really desperate to have your name in my article.

Duds

Division 1

- Jeremy Rooney for staying home and sleeping off the hangover from getting plastered the night before the season began.

Division 2

- Ignacio Valdes-Manzanedo for struggling how badly he did this week. After the way he played last season and how he’s been killing it in FPF. I mean we (MFL Committee) all expected him to light it up with ease.

Division 3

- Jason Armenti for not taking his foot off the gas and running up the score like he did.

Division 4

- Robert White for no other reason than throwing a pick to Jon Evans (ed’s note: a pick 6!), this is an automatic Dud win, so players be aware of this.

Division 5

- Simon Valiquette for putting in a team in D5 with players that you know are too strong for the division and on top of the running up the score by taking deep shots late in the game once the game is already locked up.

Once again you can see I’m not a fan of teams running up scores especially when it’s against a far weaker team. If you made my Dud list, I don’t want to see you up here again next week. If I do you might not like what is written this time around.
