Word from the Mouth: The Commish is out of Commish! edition
There is some sad sad news this week in the MFL, Jon is forced to retire as a QB. The reason given for the retirement is the arm just can’t take it anymore, but we all know the truth, going 0-2 all time as a QB against me he can’t hold his head up in the huddle anymore and have his team believe he can get it done. Jon losing a second time to me still isn’t as bad as being a Cowboys fan though.
Saturday marked 10000 days since they last appeared in the NFC championship game and yet somehow, they are still called America’s team. What’s the sadder news Jon or the Cowboys?
This weekend was nice weather to play in as the day went along. Games at 9:30 had to deal with the wind and some people thought it was cold, but late in the day it was still windy, but not nearly as bad and the sun was shining so it was great.
Week 4 Recap
Division 1
Outlaws vs Iron Wolves (34-32)
This one turned out closer than I expected. Tyler was all over Demario in this game collecting 5 sacks which is fantastic, but I want to point out Demario is hurt and cant move very well right now. Svetna had a good game filling the stat sheet, all game he was reading Demario’s eyes and kept getting beat on defense because he was cheating and late in the game Demario didn’t look him off and Svetna picked it off and ran it in for 6. Meis was a beast for Iron Wolves all game except one play there was miscommunication between him and Demario. Meis was wide open 30 yards down field Demario was moving around, Meis stopped in the hole and Demario launches 10 yards past where Meis was standing. One play that no one will talk about is the pick by Christian with the score 32-28 Iron Wolves they had the chance to go up 2 scores, but weren’t able to capitalize on it and let Outlaws stay in the game. After that is when Svetna got his pick 6 and put Outlaws up and secured the win for them.
Division 2
Marvels vs Nice TDs (38-26)
After struggling his first time out this season Iggy looked like he did in the past and had no problems moving the ball and scoring in the first half. In the second half Nice TDs woke up and started playing better on offense matching scores, The issue for Nice TDs was their defense looked like Swiss cheese, there were holes everywhere and Iggy made them pay by scoring on them every time he touched the ball. The player that keeps surprising me each week is Mikelis Rogers as whenever a play needs to be made, he is right there making it. He reminds me of a younger Kevin Smuda, this is a player to watch out for. Here is the play that caused a fuss for Nice TDs. Very late in the game on fourth down Max has the ball down on ground he picks it up and goes and talks to Iggy, comes backs set the ball and snaps it. Iggy throws it to Mikelis for the 11 yards TD and then they get the convert to seal the game. Kris is arguing that it’s a penalty and should be a turnover since it was fourth down. Max never made a snapping like motion and picked the ball up directly, this was not a penalty and the game ended like that. Even if it was a penalty, it would have been a 5 yard procedure penalty and Marvels would still have the ball and fourth down.
Division 3
Iron Wolves vs Phoenix (12-19)
This game went by fast. The first half both teams only had 2 possessions. Jon opened the game with the ball and put a nice long drive together before Cory picked him off in the endzone. Going into the wind to start the game Phoenix put a 14 play drive together to open the scoring. It didn’t take long for Jon to come right back down to score, after missing convert it was 7-6 Phoenix. I strawberry shortcaked twice in this game by not managing the clock. The first time was with 30 seconds left calling a timeout on fourth down thinking it was third, this resulted in Phoenix turning the ball over and giving Iron Wolves a shot to take the lead before half. After gaining yards on their first play Jon took a shot to the endzone where it was picked off by Justin. This left time for a few plays. But nothing was there so the score was 7-6 at half. Phoenix opened the second half with the ball and were able to score because Cory made a great adjustment on the ball and pulled it in with 1 hand. Just like the first half Jon picked the defense apart and scored without much trouble. After stopping Phoenix and getting the ball back Jon just got out of endzone to avoid the safety. Two plays later Iggy had a step on JF going deep as the ball was coming in the wind took it and Iggy just missed making the adjustment and the ball was incomplete. Phoenix moved the ball all the way down the field and were put in a third and half a yard just outside redzone. All game long Kris was yelling at Carlos to stop jumping and go after the flag. Carlos jumped as I rolled out to the left Kris came up to make the tackle, I pumped he jumped, and I walked in for the score. That was the second time I shortcaked as all I had to do was not score and the game was over. Iron Wolves started to drive and Jon’s arm gave out and Lesniak went QB for the last few plays of the game. On the final play, Alex got the ball as a halfback and threw it to Lesniak who caught the ball but was falling into the endzone, which meant he was down on the 1 yard line and the game was over.
Average Joes vs Bines (33-32)
What a game this turned out to be. Joes dominated early and looked to run away with it being up 19-0 less than 10 minutes into the game. Bines fought back with Thomas Cote-Parent looking unstoppable catching balls and making defenders miss tackles. Very late in the game Bines were down and driving. David found Thomas for a TD giving them a 5-point lead. They decided to go for 1 and once again David hooked up with Thomas to make it a 6-point game with 38 seconds left. It doesn’t seem like a lot of time but when you have all 3-time outs there is no need to rush. Jason hit Oliver for 15 yards then Flood for 25 putting the ball on the 1-yard line and the last play of the game. Jason looks left comes back right to find Geoffrey for the score. On the convert Jason found a wide-open Flood in the middle of the end zone for the win. I will tell you that Average Joes wouldn’t have needed to score at the end if Oliver had caught the deep ball Jason threw to him earlier. Since he dropped the pass, he owed Jason 45 pushups after the game. I’ve never seen someone sprint that fast after a game in my life. Oliver you still owe those 45 pushups before you’re allowed back out on the field.
Division 4
Drama Club vs Bines Low Fat (13-19)
I felt bad for Simon in this game, his team dropped at least 8 passes that were easily catchable and at least 2 TDs. The biggest play on offense for Drama Club was a short pass caught by Jeanne Lewis who took it all the way for a 40-yard TD and her first on the year. Remi had a big day on defense getting 2 picks. One was thrown right to him but, the other he ran from the other side of the field and plucked it from right in front of the receivers’ hands. Thomas Cote-Parent scored from 10, 17 and 30 yards out to get all the TDs for Bines Low Fat. Even with all the drops and miscues, Drama Club was still up late in the game, but allowed Bines Low Fat to score leaving time for a few plays. Simon knew he had plenty of time to march the field so on first down threw a check down to Roxanne who caught it inches from the ground for 9 yards, then hit her again for on the same play for 8 yards. The defense wised up and took the quick throw away which left Nico open for 10 yards. Simon now had time for 2 plays. First was incomplete and on the last play he threw it towards the endzone where it was knocked away by David and the game was done just like that.
Division 5
Phoenix vs Weekend Warriors (27-20)
I was really looked forward to this game knowing I was going up against Jeremy. I found out earlier in the day that Jeremy was banged up and not sure he was going to play. Jeremy did play, at least at first and only QB. First half of the game was easy for Phoenix as we were able to move the ball and make plays and score. Once Goldrick went QB for Weekend Warriors our job got a lot more difficult. Gold could run and was able to find players open most of the time. At half both teams made a few adjustments, and the second half wasn’t very exciting. Phoenix was only 6 players, and you could tell they weren’t running good routes, QB was missing easy throws, balls were getting dropped. Marcel Jovani had a good game with 1 TD and 2 picks. The players who impressed me the most in this game were Sandrine from Weekend Warriors as she caught everything thrown her way and made it tough on the defense. For Phoenix it was Chrissy, not for her 5 tackles or scoring on a convert, but for holding her own in the middle against a player almost twice as big. Then we have Kat who rushed most of the game and ended up getting a sack, but then when needing a break from rushing got a pick as well.
There you have this weeks recaps.
